I agree. However, what about Julie Bishop? I saw her on the box and was quite impressed.

Twould be good...but if Gillard is elected this time.....

However, I'd put $5.00 on Bishop being PM sometime in our lives.

I think she bungled the whole Israeli spy thingy. Not impressed myself.

I think the coalition will probably chop and change for a while until some young gun rises to the top (a bit like the UK Tories).

I might bring my previous prediction of 2019 back to 2016 for the next coalition government.

Exclamation Re: The Sensible Australian Election Thread

TONY Abbott has promised automatic jail terms for people-smugglers and people who harbour illegal immigrants.

This triggered warnings from legal experts that the tough Coalition policy could see innocent people jailed for trying to help the homeless.
As his immigration spokesman, Scott Morrison, flew to Nauru to inspect the island's offshore processing centre, Mr Abbott was centring his pitch for re-election on strong border protection.
The Opposition Leader vowed to impose mandatory jail sentences of 12 months to 10 years for people-smugglers and for Australians who harboured illegal immigrants.
The government attacked Mr Abbott's mandatory sentencing policy, saying Labor had already introduced penalties of up to 20 years for people-smugglers.
But the Opposition Leader was unswayed.

So, turn in your relative / flatmate / boyfriend / girlfriend / workmate / backpacker mate or go to jail for 12 Months? Better start building Jails.

Yes she did but Abbott didn't do much better. Its very hard to get elected PM as a West Australian, I'm happy to take fivers on the fact that she will never be our PM

I agree across the board. That's why I don't think Abbot will last 12 months if he becomes PM.

Nothing else. It does demonstrate the influences on policy making.

Anyone watch Gillard on Q+A last night?

I thought she came over really well. Still a bit overly media trained with the kung fu hands but much less rehersed than the 'debate' shambles and came across as pretty genuine. Clearly about 10 times more intelligent than Abbott, though I'll be interested to see him on it next week.

The hands are freaky. Especially when she's behind a podium and all you can see is these 2 disjointed hands dancing away.

Watched the Chaser thing last night and she definitely handles them better than Tony. He just keeps laughing over the top of them until he can get away. She at least replies to their questions.
