Agreed... Does it not mention both Recruitment agents and Real estate agents in the bible along with the Tax collectors and harlots?

Don't forget second hand car salesmen and politicians.

I sometimes think there is a college somewhere where they teach these types just how to lie convincingly to the public and treat them like plebs.

At least the harlots provide a useful service and work for their money.

If you don't mind, Sass, I'm not going to publicly list it on an open forum. I work for a Public safety/Utils company. It's one of the best roles I've had the pleasure in having. Straight-forward work, good rates. Took me all of 5mins work to get it. All I did was go on to Seek, type a paragraph of notes about my experience and a phone call received got me an interview the next day. This has been par for the course for Seek, and for agents in general.

Is you OH good? A Masters is a Masters is a Masters. I respect academia and indeed the whole business of learning but ultimately he has to have some ripe skill-sets. By all means PM me!

getting back on topic agents are a complete nightmare. I just had an experience in the last few weeks, I go for an interview with an agency for a position that was advertised.

Have a great chat with the guy, he tells me all about the job, we talk for like an hour about previous roles, experience etc, it goes really well.
He says hes putting me forward for the job. I find out a week later that the position had actually already been filled by someone else before I even went in for the interview.

Also he has gone and hasseled all my refrences, even though he has no job to put me forward to. Basically he called them just to see if he could drum up more buisness for himself, using my name and the pretence of getting a reference as a way to see if they themselves are looking for people.

So now I have pissed of references, who are going to be less inclined to speak to other people about me and the damn agent lied about even having a job.

Dear xzibit, this attitude didn't grow in one day for me..for the last 14 days every morning I am facing this issue of being put in the database. What do they ask me? where I worked how many years and on what project? How can anyone show any attitude in that?U tell me? Yesterday my agent told me to lookup a company's name in google and how would I feel about traveling to that place. As if that job is ready for me and even asked me not to sign with the company that is offering me job. Then no nothing today. What attitude do you expect from me after this nice experience?

Hey, take the job that's been offered and if the agent gets back to you, then great, but if you have solid job offer, take it. I'd snatch their hands off and probably their arm off too! Good luck in your ventures in Australia. I hope it all works out for you

Then I'm glad that I have some Australian experience....

Though, I believe that in life one meets all kind of situations, people, recruiters, companies etc....

So my attitude is...be ready for everything, embrace the challenges, learn from all experience, become a better person, always keep a positive attitude and believe in yourself and your dreams, follow your true gut feelings (don't let emotions skew them), never give up.....

....and you'll be fine

Cheers

I don't think a seasoned professional from any country would need more than a month to get accustomed to new environment as IT people are already habituated in working with offshore projects. And its true that a guy with 2 years local experience gets preference from a guy with 5 years experience abroad . Its only the loss of this industry, someday they will realize. I have many of my friends in my country working for offshore Australian software companies and they never saw the dust of Aus. How could they deliver for years?
I'm based here in California now, working in Silicon Valley right now. The big difference I see here is that Americans don't really care if your English is bad or you have a very thick accent as long as you can do the job and your price is right. Australians on the other hand think it is essential that you speak English like a native speaker, even for very technical roles. When I worked in Oz I saw international candidates who were much more qualified for a technical role discounted in favour of more junior native English speakers.

This is one of the many reasons IMO that tech is substantially behind the times in Oz and is why most successful Aussies in this industry end up leaving the country.

There are people in my team that can barely string a sentence together in English, albeit at more junior levels but still earning a good $100k. My experience is that Sydney is far more forgiving that London. I never came across anyone in London that could not speak perfect English (in the business environment that is).

I think it's a bad thing. But it makes those of us who can speak English a shoe-in at interview(!)

It's a big advantage being a native English speaker when looking for a promotion as well, I have also heard of some employees are not considered for promotion because they would be in the postion to favour people of a similar culture as themselves rather than be impartial... It a bit of a contradiction if you ask me but that's the way things are done.
