They both look absolutely amazing, my initial thoughts would be they would be too far out. I'm a Marketing Manager and I'm expecting to find work in the CBD. I'd be happy to discover otherwise and be able to consider looking at such distances out.

Hi Colin. I'm lucky. I live & work in Monbulk, so i'm a bit unsure about the distances to commute. There are a few out there that can probably help.

We live just into the Yarra ranges. We are about 15/20 minutes from the edge of the city, and love the space & freedom, but also if we want the city its just around the corner.

Its probably too far to commute for most people, but there are a lot of places just on the edge of the city that might be worth looking at if you dont want a beach around the corner.

The Crow lives in The Basin which again is a beautiful little village just outside the hustle & bustle, but close enough to the city. Ferntree, Olinda are very nice towns as well (Bordy lives in Ferntree)

We lived in Holland before we came here nestled between Delft & the Hague. It was all built up, traffic, congestion etc etc and since moving out here, we just cannot believe our luck living in a fairly small village (pop 5000) with plenty of space, and still fairly affordable. We have a half acre plot, and are already looking at finding something with up to 30 acres locally (locally max $800k)

I'll ask a few of the locals about commuting times etc. One of the girls at work lives in the city, so she might be able to help. You definitely get a lot more bang for your buck outside the city.

One of the main reasons that living further out appeals to us is our hobby. We do "Dog Agility" (where the dog goes over jumps, through tunnels, etc.) and we would love a plot big enough to train at home. It's something we'd like but isn't at the top of our priority list so it's something we may look for "further down the line" once we're settled a bit but great to know places like that exist.

Maybe I need to see what sort of Marketing work there is outside of the CBD.

Just to let you know, The Basin, for example, is only 45-50 min by train to the CBD.

Thanks mate, that's good to know. I think we've just got to keep an open mind and not focus "too much" on a certain area. The main pull to Doreen is obviously my Dad - having lived 12,000 miles away from him for the last 25 years, it seems silly to move so close to him and yet still be about an hours drive away - which in reality will probably mean we won't "pop" round too often. Round your way looks fantastic though - very confused at the moment

Its near a beach(5 mins away in car) Brand new shopping cetre and cinema complex etc. More schools than you can shake a stick at

20 mins to CBD.

Countryside all to the left of you as there are greenbelts that can be built on(yet or for 20 odd yrs)

Its a bit industrial slightly to the west of the city but when you are past that its great. And best of all the westgate bridge has the best view you can have in melbourne going in to work in the morning. Dock to the left with big container ship. In front of you the skyscrapers. To the right andfront is williamstown marina with yachts moored up, port melbourne with international cruise liners and then the beaches of st kilda as far as the eye can see to brighton and beyond. All that mixed wuith a sunny day............

You dont get that in the west going in to work.

Have a good look aROUND north south east and west, only you know whats right for you an your budget

Nahhhhh

I went to see collingwood v carlton last week with my next door neighbour who supports collingwood. What a crazy game.

Think of basketball, rugby and football and gaelic football all combined with the gayest tank tops in sport and there you have it LOL

Really fast paced game.

Basically kick ort run ball between 1 of 4 posts(if you miss you still get points as there are 4 posts)

If you run you have to bounce the ball

If you kick it over 15m to yourt player its called a mark. Like a free kick.

Apart from that, havent got a clue.

Was a great day out, especially as i was in the members section of the world famous MCG. Lovely staium. They all look the same after 10 halfs though.

And much to my neighbours disgust, im supporting st.kilda.

For the reasons

A. Its the closest team to my shop
B. They wear Man Uniteds colours
c. Its the first place i ever went in melbourne

LOL - I did actually used to know the rules pretty well 10 years ago as after visiting my Dad over there, I got to watching it on Sky Sports - it's all very blurry now though.

I love the MCG - went there to watch a 1-day cricket match in a box with my Dads company. Fantastic time, great food, great company, great cricket and great beer!!

One team defo out is Collingwood as over here I support Sunderland and there's no way I could support any team that calls themselves the Magpies I don't think my Dad would ever let me in his house either

You have no chance of getting to the beach in 5 minutes 15 is more accurate, there isn't enough schools here unless you're catholic maybe

Look, you may be getting that driving time straight off maps.google.com.au (or possibly the brochure from the property developers), but there is NO WAY you can drive from Mernda to the CBD in 45 mins in regular peak hour traffic. Unless you are driving a helicoptor, or you have a teleporter to get you past Yan Yean/Plenty road, it is simply not possible.
