I have just read through the last few pages of this thread.....
and watching WDU on some mornings last and this week I noticed that many families wanted to become mortgage free and would've been able to buy a house outright ...should they decide to go ahead and make the move.
What scared me was the fact that some of them would not've been on such a bad income ( compared to what my husband would earn over there anyway)
...yet being mortgage free they were still worried about making ends meet and living comfortably. I have to say that if we were mortgage free right now we would definitely live very comfortably here in the uk !!!!!
We were all set to apply for our visa after months of research, but now I am really not so sure anymore. We would need a mortgage and with hubbies wages ( his and mine would add up to ~ $70K with 3 kids )and the prices of everyday living as mentioned in this thread....I am wondering if after getting used to the sunshine ..we really would be living a better life in Oz....
...or are those families appearing in WDU not really your average and are just asking for too much ???

Hi I'm a new member, just joined tonight!
I've sent my application for a Visa in November and just waiting to be allocated a case officer (and waiting, and waiting, and waiting!!!!!)
After watching the programme, I'm worried about the cost of living and wages in Perth. My husband is a painter/decorator and they dont seem to earn very much and prices of houses they show on the programme are expensive, do they just show houses in posh suburbs or are they really that pricey? Some people seem to expect the earth when they are over there but I just want to know whether I'll be able to manage or not!!
Just wondered if there was anyone out there who has been allocated a case officer recently and could give me some indication of how long it takes? We are applying under the 47SK vise for SIR. We are hoping to move to Perth in the Mandurah area. I have looked on the job website and there doesnt seem to be any jobs for a painter/decorator even though it is on the 'jobs in demand' list????
Questions, questions questions!!!!!!!!! Sorry!!!!!!!!!!

STOP RIGHT THERE
Nadia isn't that bad! I'm going to start a save our Nadiacampaign. She may talk in a higher octave than the average lady BUT she is pleasing to the eye with a couple of great assets. Count your lucky stars it could of been Nicky Campbell doing the presenting.

I would suggest you have a look on www.realestate.com.au, having recently been advised to look at it I have been able to gauge the possible costs of renting and buying in the area.
I can't say anything about the availability of jobs sorry, but from a place to live aspect try the website, the problem I have found with the website is that because I don;t know the areas at all I don;t know if the properties are in bad, good or indifferent areas (but some on here have been a great help!). I wish you lots of luck, once I have started on the route to finding somewhere to stay I will see if any of the experience can provide some help or advice to you. I would say that there are many people on this site that have great experience that could help you out I am sure.

I wasnt trying to be smart, i was just telling it like it was.If you have seen so many redbacks in such a short time then i think you are very unlucky, i knew people in our town who had never seen one in there whole life.

Oh well the first 2 episodes anyway. The Booton's have gone AWOL and it's to late to do anything tonight. Sorry to let down all the Booton's fan's out there like that, but they will be online tomorrow.

I know we do get snakes here as friends of ours live on an acre block 10 mins up the road and they get them.....
Redbacks are everywhere, they love living in the top of the fence panels and around the top of our gazebo!
