I would love to see these shows feature stuff like this, oh this is a classroom, look its 34 degrees and the ceiling fans are twirling the heat round and round an round, cut to red faced sweaty exhausted children, wow what a lifestyle !!

Re building sites there is no starting at 5.30 to avoid the heat, noise regs prevent that you start at 7 most sites now only let workers have one break as short as 20 mins despite the heat.

I don't know about red faces sweaty children I nearly died yesterday! I have some small empty boots botanic spray bottles.I fill them with water, stick them in the freezer and take them out with me along with some cloth hankies. Spray and mop that's me Seriously considering getting head shaved too!

I don't think I could watchthe programme to be honest, showing all the perfect squeaky clean stuff would be more than I could take without wanting to smash the telly. Does any one on this programme ever mention the IR laws and how it is effecting the family life?

We watched it!! while over there, thankfully only for a week it makes you so angry you could chuck the freaking TV out the window, as it was my parents new supa flash TV its probably a good job we left . Mind you it amused the kids to see me so angry shouting what a load of bo!!ocks at the TV.

I think I can safely say anything like the IR laws wont be mentioned, beaches, parks yes thousands of aussies protesting against workhouse reform no way.

The British media is very good at talking the country down, maybe we should get rid of them as well as Mr Blair.

The relatively recently introduced Industrial Relations legislation from the Federal Government... Been quite a bit of flak about it all...

Long overdue partial reform of the nanny state laws that govern working conditions and entitlements. It's similar to the necessary refoms the UK went through in the early 80's.

I have been watching taping this to watch after work. I have to agree that most of it is hyped up glamourisation of life in the sun but there has been some interesting bits, like for instance quoting quite how high stamp duty is on a house. hearing it in actual $ terms instead of % terms struck home!
If there is one thing that has annoyed me more than anything it is the way wages are compared to what they would be earning in Uk. Surely if you are living with $ the £ dont really come into it
It, and posts on here, have made me really sit back and take stock of why i want to do the 'big move'. The facts are, I will NOT be better off financially in Oz, realistically speaking i will probably be slightly worse off. I own my house here (with mortgage) but i am not expecting to be able to buy out there for at least a couple of years. I am not moving out there for a quick fix so to speak but more the long term life style. Im still going to have to get up and go to work and come home and look after my children on my own. I am working on the basis that i may as well be skint in the sunshine (where kids can play out for free) as be skint here. I believe there is greater opportunities for my children in austalia. I may be wrong, i hope not. For me and my children - IF we get our visa Australia will be our future, good or bad.
...........sorry im waffling now

It's a light entertainment programme, so don't take it too seriously. The target audience is British and probably not potential migrants, so they need to have prices in GBP.

I've just looked at your profile and see you have an 18 and a 14 year old. How do they feel about you wanting to come to Australia, especially the 18 year old?

I replied on this forum about a TV programme!

My point was how can starting at 5.30 am to do a 10 hour shift laying bricks in up to 35 deg improve your lifestyle?

Too many people in England do not understand just what a good life we have!

That was it. No dig at Australia. Just an observation.

The reason I watch the show is that It comes on a few minutes after I wake up, and I need 2 cups of tea and an hours tele before I can face getting up, having my breakfast, showering and the walking down to the village pub.
If you are retired and you worked all your life then I’m sorry for the rant. Carry on as you where, Please ignore the next section

How can you say such a thing when your lifestyle is so different from this family’s? Mr Keen has done a days work before you have had your second cup of tea. The biggest differents between you and the keen’s or should I say most of the working class family’s in this country is you have already got YOUR lifestyle well and truly sorted. Wake up @ 09:15 put TV on until 10:00, S***/Shower/Shave then down the pub. No surprised there you don't want to go anywhere.
But the point is the Keen family in today’s show where hoping to find a little bit more for their family life (not just sitting in a pub all day). So given the choose of working in the Aussie sun or back here in the English weather (remember he is a bricky & rain stops play, no play no money) my guess is he will give the Aussie lifestyle ago. But at the end of the day, they and all of us are going to make their own decision with what they think is right for their family and nobody’s else’s.
For me this show has open my eyes that little bit more, and with all the added info I’m getting from this web site I’m under no dissolutions about have rough this ride is going to be. BUT I an’t going to the grave saying I never tried.

PS, thought the Larner family was the best in the series. BUT I would say that.
PSS, Lets hope they do a follow up show in a few months time to find out what happened to all the families.
