The truckies on the F3 speed up to their 100km limiters going down the hills then slip in to neutral to get an extra 30 or so before the climb up. I see this every day as they come speeding past you in whatever lane they fancy and if that isn't dangerous driving then I dint know what is.

truckers breaking the speed limit has a different meaning to me, obviously

A minor gripe but hey have some manners on the roads folks.
Been here nearly six years, hubbie learnt to drive in UK and me here but we both agree that the driving here is terrible and we can often be heard whinging about it. If you think they speed up to stop you changing lanes, try it with P plates on, impossible as no one wants a p-plater in front of them... and don't get me started on roundabouts or merging traffic! Driving is defo easier here though, less traffic and wider roads so don't don't have to close ur eyes and hope as in UK with narrow roads and parking both sides of the street
Still, as bad as the driving is it makes me feel better about mine

I'd rather have a P Plater in front of me, than behind tailgating me..

I despise driving here. The Australian people, that we have met in person, are some of the nicest we have ever met, but as soon as they get into their cars they become complete tossers.

Agree... but I never did that as I was what they call a 'mature' p-plater at the time

I was a London courier for 10 years, then a London Cabbie for 10, and altho I find some driving here very strange, once you learn how it goes, it get's better!

As much as people don't seem to let you out of a junction, you're not expected to let someone out either!

DON'T pull out half way onto a major road, no one's gonna stop and let you go, and the traffic heading your way aint gonna be happy!

Give up trying to fathom why a single car will be in lane 4 of the highway, when they're the ONLY car in sight! 'Keep left unless overtaking' ... I see the signs along with the $125 warning! ...

Only a fool breaks the 2 second rule! ...

On the plus side Nic was saying earlier how it's been yonks since she had to reverse into a parking space, and my daughter who's been driving for 3 years now said she hasn't since getting her licence ...

Half of my working day here is driving and I will often do 250 k's a day. Most of this is motorway driving and as long as it's not heading south out of Brissie at 2pm onwards, it's all a breeze! ...

Company car helps tho.

Drives OH crazy! ... but you just have to be quick. See the gap, indicator and go! ANY dithering and the gap will be filled!

I'm told in Australia if you're in front, and indicate, the other car HAS to hold back. If a collision, then THEY'RE to blame!

Dunno how true tho, but had 3 or 4 work colleagues all tell me 100% it was the case! ...

Tis true. The car in front has right of way - well they did when I learnt anyway

really hard for truck to slip it into neutral....they just coast, and the laws of weight and gravity take over...then they use their engine / jake brakes - arennt they a delight, noisy f-wits...and again, no legal restrictions..

So in the Burnley tunnel in Melb the speed cameras are at the bottom of the slope, even tho your cruise is set at 80, and you have backed off, you look down and you have crept over 90....oh crap, another few points and $150+

Some good things: wider road, especially in suburbia, fewer cars (should equal fewer idiots!), big parking spaces, booze buses, variable speed limits outside schools and colleges,

Some bad things: very average road signage, especially at road works and contra-flows, late indicators and pushing out, lane hoggers, undertakers, "she'll be right atitude", trucks able to travel as same speed as cars on highway / freeways so no seperation, no speed camera notification / hidden behind bridges, roundabout discipline is awful, traffic lights that are in fixed sequences day and night, no annual MoT / RW, people having their brekkie in the car on the way to work, 100k on single road or three lanes - trees are much closer on single road..more idiots / hoons, not less....the list is endless...

...and if the car in front slams on the brakes in the middle of a clear road while doing 80kph, for no reason at all, and you hit him, its your fault - never made sense to me but thats the law.

theres a difference between enforcing and information.
you dont have to take any action on the sheeps behalf. you can look at the sign and keep going at your normal speed if you like. Accelerate if you wish. Its just info. I really fail to see how animal information signs are nanny state.

That would be because the driver in the following car should be maintaining a safe stopping distance and paying attention ... little details like that ...
