Mr Mover, I was ready to agree with everything you have written so far and then you spoil it by saying that FH is known as 'little Britain'.......now people won't come here either cos they think it is like HC
IMO if anyone listens to some of the crap spouted out by some folks and it prevents them from moving here....well more fool them!!!!!!
Now where did I put those rose tinted glasses

in the north it would have to be Greenwith /golden grove area, as a lot of UK familys generally know some one in this area seeing it is mostly populated by the children of the old "10 pound"poms and a lot have rellies there...........

Adelaide has lots of little pockets of nationalities dotted around the suburbs. In the 60's the Brits used to congregate in Elizabeth or Para hills now they do it in other areas. I personally don't see the problem with people wanting to be near others of the same nationality providing it doesn't interfere with their assimilation into australian life as that why we came in the first place..right?
I came and have gone straight into life with the Aussies and whilst this has been hard at times and I have missed 'my own folk' for want of a better expression, I have been forced to fully assmiliate and BE Australian. Forget the Bisto, forget going where the other British folk are. There's lots of great suburbs in adelaide and they're not necessarily always Golden Grove or Hallett Cove. Stay away from the sheep mentality IMHO and get in amongst it.
Oh and I live in one of Adelaide's northern suburbs, feared my many a new migrant, and I have never had any trouble whatsoever for the 8 years I've been here. I've lived at Albert Park in the west, Plympton and Glenelg. I was broken into at Glenelg but had no trouble anywhere else.

For those in UK who have been worried by this thread, I would also like to add that I lived in Adelaide for thirty years before leaving to see the world and try my luck in UK (and USA) a few years ago.
I was brought up in poorer suburbs both north and south of Adelaide and crime, or fear of crime, were not a feature of my childhood.
Adelaide is not a scary place and I am looking forward to the day we go home.
And my first stop will be Cibo Espresso
(Speaking of crime - I might start a thread about the crimes against coffee committed in other parts of the world!)

We moved 6 uk familys into FSH last year ,1 saffie family ,1 uk family have returned to the uk after 8 months [home sick] so its not doing to bad compared to the rest of Adelaide
in the north it would have to be Greenwith /golden grove area, as a lot of UK familys generally know some one in this area seeing it is mostly populated by the children of the old "10 pound"poms and a lot have rellies there...........

Just pointing out that shit happens.
All the OP was doing was highlighting recent events in Hallet cove......a problem that has gone on for a long time.
Where people choose to live is their own choice but why pretend that everything is OK when it is not?
My son experienced more crime when he lived in Adelaide than he ever did in the UK.

All we hear about is how much your Son hated Adelaide and what an awful time he had here and what a truely dreadful place it is!!
Crime is unfortunatly a factor of life anywhere in the world, and whilst we Adelaidians read about things in the paper regarding gangs and attacks, I agree that we feel very safe here and never seen or had any problems. I agree that if you want trouble and go looking for it then you would find it, but then so would anyone living in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow etc etc etc
Hallet Cove isnt my choice of area to live but then many HC residents wouldnt like living in the Northern Suburbs, it is a "choice" and I am pretty sure most people dont take what is said on this forum to always be 100% true!! I am sure people who arrive in Australia and dont like the area they are living in are able to orchastrate a move from one area to another within the same country having just managed from one side of the world to another!
Maybe thats what it is, these posters keep slagging off areas in Adelaide are jealous as they dont have the balls to emigrate themselves so get their kicks out of slagging off other peoples choice of areas to live??

We all have opinions.....mine is that I would not want to live in Adelaide.
Why would I want to move all that distance to live in a place which can not match where I already live?

I was being tongue in cheek earlier but believe me i doubt the crime in Adelaide is even on par with Manchester. That gang thing probly wouldnt have made the papers as its a regular occurence. I hav had 2 cars stolen, both written off by kids joyriding. Had a stereo pinched from one, cars broken into several times, one car damged by someone who drove off garden furniture stolen, been attacked myself, hubby has had mobile nicked, had drinks spiked while out. both my parents have been mugged, mil has been burgled twice, so lets face it adelaide cant be any worse than this can it?I sometimes get the impression alot of people on this site live in leafy suburbs with roses around the door and the local bobby tipping his hat on the way to reprimand a local boy whose stolen a bun from the bakers
I dont expect anywhere i live in adelaide to be 100% perfect but it cant be any worse than north manchester can it?? I am considering those northern burbs, as its looking likely thats all we can afford, unless of corse its the new moss side??

Why if you are happy living where you are, do you keep looking on a website designed for people moving to Australia?? Is life that great really or do you have a little something missing?? (In life that is not brain cells!!
