I found the same with "Harry" and "hairy" and more recently and far more alarmingly, whilst trying to plan a picnic, I couldn't tell whether she was telling me to get the "hampers" or the "pampers".

We were taking baby PercyPerc, in case anyone was wondering why I would be taking pampers with us for a picnic.

It's fixed now. .... I have a bad habit of going back and changing what I wrote. Sometimes words get inserted in the wrong place.

Makes sense now. Is your wife a Kiwi? I can't think of an American accent where those two words would be confused.

One of the volunteers at the library made beautiful handwritten signs for the store, unfortunately one of them was 'Intertainment'.

The accent in The South does. Lots of vowel sounds get twisted and blurred making distinction between some words next to impossible. .... Typically in such cases the vowel sound gets extended with a "breathy h", to wit : pih-n and peh-n

I often forget I have a different accent and when people ask the question where I am from, I often reply - Just down the road, other side of the lake, over the Buster Boyd bridge - they then think I am being a smart ass - no wonder I don't have any friends!

I've done that as well, answered "where are you from" with the town I live in. Easily done if you've been here for a while.

When my daughter is talking to Americans and switches accents, I do think, " What's wrong with your voice?"

Switching accents sounds like way too much work
