And here's the case of someone I'm trying to help:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1863056/posts
Summary:
Wendy Lee came across Juan Vega, a pedestrian who'd been struck by a car and was lying by the side of the road. She called 911 and began PMR, but when she did, Vega's blood gushed out of his mouth and into hers.
'Vega died on the way to Brackenridge Hospital in Austin. When emergency workers saw that Lee, 38, was covered in Vega's blood, they sent her to the hospital to be tested for HIV and hepatitis.
The tests came back negative, but because Williamson County didn't test Vega for those diseases at the scene, Lee is left wondering whether she was exposed to viruses that might affect her health later. Doctors say that six to eight weeks after exposure is the most important time to test for HIV and hepatitis because both viruses take time to show up, but Lee said she cannot afford to get retested.
And more than a month later, she's stuck with almost $3,000 in medical bills [despite having medical insurance!];
"When I opened that bill, I wanted to cry," said Lee, a single mother of two teenagers.'
Now defend THAT -- unbelievable bullshit. $3,000 for testing for HIV because she stopped to help a dying man.

Wow! All that because I had the nerve to ridicule your (unbelievably crap) taste in seafood?
Despite your little tirade, I value your opinion. I really do. So much so in fact that I changed my user title (under my user name) to reflect your opinion of me.
BTW, you can learn a lot of useful things from lesbians...

APols ABY. I mean I have heard people slagging off others for using a food card because they may have dared us it to buy a pack of chips (crisps) on it instead of just piles of broccolli or dried beans. I heard of one case where a lowly checkout clerk at wal-mart reduced a young mother to tears becuase he thought she should not be buying 'junk food' with what he percieved to be his hard earned money. That was what I meant (though I could have put it better) ![Smile](https://britishexpats.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)
![Smile](https://britishexpats.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Now I understand. I have experience with that attitude and regretfully have had it myself. One of my highschool jobs was working the seafood/deli counter at Schnucks supermarket. It would irk me to have people on welfare buy expensive lobsters, shrimp platters and the like on foodstamps while my Father was busting his ass during the day and going to school at night and we were on a steady diet of pasta. I was immature and jealous. Now I realize that it's their perogative. Maybe they just wanted to try lobster once, or maybe they'd rather eat like a king once a week than reasonably all week. It's their choice, I no longer worry about it. I've still never had a lobster though.

So her insurance payed for the first tests but not the followup? Or did they pay for none of it?
Despite what a lot of you may think, just because I am leery of an NHS doesn't mean I am a fan of the current system. I am certainly not. I would love to see affordable private health care. Yeah, I know it's a pipe dream. The healthcare industry, the insurance industry and the ambulance lawyers are only too happy with the way it is.
I believe that there will be some form of NHS or private healthcare reform or some combination of the two in the next decade, espescially if the next president is a Democrat other than Hillary Clinton.

We are in the same situation. We have good health and dental but unfortunately my wife has poor teeth. We've had to pay for a number of fillings and root canals ourselves because she was over the yearly limit. We are currently appealing our providers descision not to pay for my wife's first ever mammogram because she had it done at the place the Dr. recommended, which unbeknownst to my wife, was not affiliated with our plan. Since it was an unapproved location, we got the full bill instead of no bill.
