Sandy

We have constant rain, the rough stuff starts later. I finally found out what some were hinting at. This hurricane is connecting up with a low pressure area that would lead to a Nor'easter in winter, it is bringing the cold. It is snowing or will snow in the mountains of West Virginia, they expect to measure the depth in feet not inches when it is over. Lewis, Delaware has had six inches of rain already. In forty plus years, I have not seen preparation like this for a storm, of course, there hasn't been a storm like this in that time, or ever. Schools, governments and business' are closed, roads that normally resemble parking lots are empty.

The hurricane is picking up speed as itx approaches land...90 mph now with gusts of 115 mph. I'm thinking if this was Florida our windows would be boarded up by now. All I've done is put warm clothing and duvets in the basement.

Put tape on the windows as a cross - it saved my windows in H.Ivan in Cayman with 150 mph winds - shame the roof went in one whole piece! Stay safe.

Already??
The hurricane's still out at sea, Nutek!
Aren't they something like Ding Dongs?
Swiss Roll type things?
And then there's Ring Dings and HoHos. Aren't they all similar? (Yes, I had young children in the 80-90s USA.)

My sister in law is stuck in Portsmouth NH - i need to look up where it is - she lives in LA and cant get a flight back till at least the end of the week..thought it was bad here on the west coast with earthquakes to contend and the odd tsunami thrown in for good measure!
stay safe all!

A few partially flooded roads and quite a lot of downed tree branches and one knackered tree across town already. Par for the course in a regular rain storm TBH.
Friends car got thumped by a falling branch though.
We're not expecting to get hit properly till 3ish.

Is she flying out of Boston? I thought the airport wasn't closed, though most flights that haven't been cancelled will resume on Thursday.
NH ain't going to get hit for a while, so probably best to leave now I guess or head down to RI as that'll probably clear the quickest around here for decent puddle jumper airports.
