Sandy

For those of us on the east coast - something to worry about or just a job justification hysteria exercise from The Weather Channel?

something to worry about i reckon. Although still time for it to change course, but yeah, they where really hyping it up on the weather channel! Talk of 'The Perfect Storm' and all that.

I'm more worried about the impact it will have on voting. If there is the widespread power outages and flooding they say is possible, how many people are going to be able to vote? And we know how the Northeast normally votes. I hope it just blows over, with no damage/flooding/snow.

Following the Italian earthquake scientists convictions, I, for one, am not going to say "it's nothing to worry about".

Re: Sandy

It now looks to come on shore in Maryland and curl westward over Pennsylvania. This is bigger than any previous storm on record, it is not the most violent but it will be about 800 miles across. It will stretch from the Jersey shore to Ohio early next week.

Of course, it could just fizzle but the forecasters seem confident.

Re: Sandy

This time last year we were hit with a huge snow storm. As the leaves were still on the trees it brought thousands of trees and power lines down in this area...resulting in many road closures and loss of power for days and in some cases weeks. The forecast is that this storm will cause more damage due to the high winds.

 Our power was out for 9 days last time.

The local weather "expert" said that this storm will be bad because it is going to "combine with winter", whatever that means.

When our power went off we packed up and went to Toronto for a few weeks. Can't this time because we are going on holiday the following week.

I hate living with no power. Must be why people used to die so young in the old days. Boredom. :p
