Hope everyone on land is ok and stay safe and dry.
Ships put to sea to ride it out, it's safer than dragging the anchor and being smashed on the jetty. The navy ships left on Friday and Saturday.

That I can understand. A wooden thing with sails with 'regular' bods manning it I can't. I was reading on the BBC that it had set sail for Florida as part of it's teaching thing, not that it was put out to sea to ride out the storm. What do I know, boats make me very vomity.

Video of the crane going wrong!
Usually the boom is lowered to near horizontal and the crane is allowed to rotate like a weather vane. This was fixed with the boom high and the wind got under it and pushed it over the cabin.

Good luck to those in the path.
We're sixty miles inland and I'd worry about drowning in our basement.

Only this time things aren't so bad so far - no windier than your average curry night (and about as wet as the next morning's ill-advised fart).

We in northern Ohio just have moderate rain and winds for now. 6-7 thousand homes without power locally hope it stays that low.

Winds are gusty, our grill tried to take flight about half an hour ago but it's pushed against a wall now so I hope it stays put now. Tv is full of nasty pics of NYC.

Pennsylvania isn't too bad here either. Few inches of rain throughout the day and 40-60 mph gusts, but no bad storm surges like NYC or the shore. Not looking forward to fixing my shore house after this.

In general it is, but there are odd cases where the water may become unsafe. Local municipalities usually will inform anyone if the water is unsafe to drink.

Stay inside!

And perhaps stay away from windows and under a nice strong beam in the house?

Must be worrying.
