Default Salary?

I know that most Brits will find this in the depths of poor taste, discussing money in public, but what the hell.

In another thread they're discussing whether people on this board are making more or less money than might be expected. Let's see, shall we?

could you beakdown the 100K to 200K into 2 grps.

honestly, people earning >200K rarely participate in discussion forums. unless of course, they are hoping to get free advertising. very cheeky i may add.

What's the matter Gross- don't want to commit the sin of vanity?
Sure hope with a salary like that you tithe- the full 10% pre-tax.

In typical style you have to comment, eh Gross? No, I cannot break it down into two groups.

And how would you know whether people earning >$200k participate in forums? Pure speculation is my guess, but feel free to lend us more of your pearls of wisdom.

And don't worry, I haven't missed the fact that you earn $100,000 - $200,000 from your message. Wouldn't want to miss that critical fact, eh?

Big difference as well at the bottom of the bands you posted. Huge difference in standard of living in the south if you're earning $26k as opposed to $49k!

...but let's not let Gross hijack yet another thread with his moronic ego massaging.

Anyone have anything more constructive to say than "Hey look everybody, I earn more than $150,000 but I can't just come out and say it."?

You're very welcome to post another poll. I wasn't sure about the bands, but fully expected that everyone else would be happy to correct me!

Alright,
in my first full year of being here and working my wife and I cleared $15,000 (by god were we broke.)

The next year we made $26,000

last year we were just shy of a joint annual income of $40,000

upwards and onwards and all that.

I do feel funny posting this information online, and no doubt some jerkoff will use it against me in a later arguement. So I might take it down after a while.

The overiding reason I posted it is to not look at the picture now, but where you want to be in 5 years say. Long term plan.......

Please bear in mind that I do reside in a very low income area comparitively to Detroit and Chicago, but this is small town rural USA.

In the 3 years I've been here, whilst I haven't earned much, we have more than doubled our income, in the process of getting decent credit ratings, buying a home etc etc.

So while life maybe shit now, always look upwards and onwards, because it does get better.

As with all things in the US salary is all relative and theoretically depends on which tier city you live in.

Now I live in Northern VA which is a hot bed of high tech and govt growth, however the area is a lower tier than say Kansas City, so local employers are not obliged to correct salaries in accordance with the real cost of licing in this area.

With average single family home prices topping the high $300s, something is awry with this system.

I am not complaining about salaries in the area but to compare what a British expat can earn in the mid-Atlantic/North East with what you can command in say South Carolina or Ohio is redundant.

So is this joint income we're talking about here? As Manc and others have said it really depends on the area youre living in. We live in an area with the average price of a 3 bed home being around $100,000 BUT thats normal folks housing, we also have all the summer visitors in thier '3 bed' homes which fetch anything from $400,000 up.
Our total joint income is around $50,000 most of which is hubbys wage. I'm still trying to find my 'niche' so keep job hopping which means my income is variable.

Well I moved here specifically for my job and thought I was on an average salary. Its only as I make more and more friends that I realise I'm not.

I'm on $75k as a starting salary in the Woodland Hills area of LA. Its expensive to live (apartment ~$1200-$2000) and fuel is silly compared to everywhere else (~$2.40/gallon) But I like it here... its certainly better than back street Yorkshire in the UK.

That was indeed the point of his post. Most pridefull IMO.
