Re: Roundabouts in the US
We went on our new roundabout twice on Saturday afternoon. I was quite impressed that everyone was using it properly, giving way to traffic in the circle and nobody was waiting more than a few seconds to slot in.
Had the original 4-way stop still be in place it would not have flowed anywhere near as nicely.

I haven't thought of that as something to do on a Saturday afternoon with the family... But if you guys were happy going round on roundabouts, who am I to judge?

I had my fill of roundabouts while in the UK recently. Not to say I still don't like them, I do! I was amazed at how easily I picked up the driving again over there. However, as I told my husband, you really have to think while driving over there, it can be tiring!

Re: Roundabouts in the US
I'm one. I LOOOOOVE roundabouts. I took to left-hand-side driving like a fish jumping back into the water. One week after white-knuckledly pulling my very first left-hand Fiat out of the Aberdeen airport, I was trundling off to Aviemore for a day trip (through the Cairngorms, narrow twisty roads) without a care in the world.
Coming back home, I accidentally almost turned left into oncoming traffic, and I am sure I passed on the right several times. Ugh. I like British driving better. And I miss my Avis Fiat like a summer fling.

Yes you do here as well... But the tight roads, double roudabouts, high congestion, etc, etc makes paying attention over there very important!

Re: Roundabouts in the US
The prevalence of driving off the road and into trees or utility poles, often with fatal results, (which are an almost daily occurence in my local area) suggest that there is a significant attention deficit in the US.

Apparently the rural west is the most dangerous for car accidents, people drive off the road and it can be days before they're found.
