Re: Price of gas update...
Gas price's are the mercy of the state and federal, here in NC I buy gas at that days rate, and time of order,
The oil company/jobber adds there mark up ranging from 0.01¢ to 0.05¢
Then the following is added FEDERAL GAS TAX 18.4%, STATE GAS TAX (whatever %), STATE INSPECTION FEE (whatever %), ENVIRONMENTAL FEE $5.95.
Then the rest is on the gas station on how much they charge, depending on local market,

Re: Price of gas update...
Prices in the swamp have been dropping steadily for the last week.
$1.979 at several 7/11's now with nearly all local stations under 2 bucks - very handy when one's gas guzzler has a bit of a timing issue (thanks to the 'special' tools muggins timed it with rather than forking out for the required 'special' tools! ) and is currently returning 9mpg. Ouch!!!

Re: Price of gas update...
That's not bad as there aren't many stations here selling below $2 at the moment. After almost 14 years here I just know which ones are invariably the lowest in each town, then keep an eye on each one as I get towards emptying the tank.
Different towns seem to take it in turns to be cheapest, and there can be a 5-10¢ difference for several weeks or months, then the prices flip, with another town taking a turn at being 5-10¢ cheaper. I have never noticed any particular pattern, except that the "tradition" of marking the price up before major public holidays no longer seems to apply.

Here they all charge the same and they all lower and raise the price together.

US still seems to have gas stations who compete a bit, I notice that each time I cross the border, can have 4 stations on the same block and they will all be slightly different prices, sometimes 20-30 cents or more difference.
