gpu's run shaders, many of them, on small elements on the main chip.
sound familiar?

It is going to be fantastic no doubt - the only thing is the novelty will wear off PDQ - and you will be left with 2 or 3 games and the rest will be crap and way behind PS3 and 360. The controller is great fun - I was using it on a driving game last week - but it doesnt make a great console

360 = Still powerfull and graphically impressive. Mid range pricing - also "established" e.g. one year old. Built in DVD HD
Wii = Graphically very similar to Gamecube. Big selling point is unique motion sensing, spatially aware controller, allowing for more "human" games, e.g. In tennis, you swing the controller as if it was a racket.
PC = Easilly upgradeable and best choice for certain types of games ( MMORPG's ( World of Warcraft), Strategy ( Sims, Sim City etc) and FPS (Quake, Doom style games). Technology is updated several times a year.

Nintendo are about the games and original gameplay. They are the only console maker to actually make a profit.

Huh? its $199 more and hardly 'built-in'
established? I've yet to find a game I must have for mine. I have the original 5 games I got when I bought it. Last time I played it was Christmas last year. My daughter like the dancing games - not a single dance game or mat available - established indeed

I didnt say I would get one - or that I dont like Nintendo - their gameplay is usually superb - that said you are seriously over generalising - there are awesome original games on all consoles - and some serious shite on nintendo.
Wii is a great concept but the longevity isnt there. Sales wont get near Xboz and PS3 - and if Wii isnt a huge hit then they may make profits no more......will be an interesting few months

Interesting article on the PS3 launch:
http://www.kotaku.com/gaming/top/for...ide-214130.php
Looks like some enterprising (or despicable) Japanese businessmen hired homeless chinese to sit in queue for the console and then paid them $90 for queing up. Whole lot of them being sold online right now for ridiculous mark-ups. How many news stories will we see on the 17th and 19th about stolen PS3/Wiis and how much will they go for on ebay?

Hey thanks for the link - it will sure make her Christmas.
We have waited over a year for a dance game to come out. She uses the PS2 it replaced more than the XBOX 360.
With over 8,000 games for the PS2 it was a shock to suddenly have a very limited selection to choose from. Most games I tried were disappointing, with graphics little better than Halo for the original XBOX. Two games I have I consider junk - Tiger Woods PGA tour 2006 and Need for Speed most wanted. I haven't bought a single game or played it since Christmas last year. I just had to buy the console though, premium and the wireless controllers etc, spoilt pr!ck that I am . . .
