Kids have always been involved 'in mindless violence' as you call it - 100 years ago kids pointed sticks at each other and pretended they had guns. This sounds like another "my kid is bad and its the computers fault" - geez, the sooner parents learn parenting skills and stop looking for excuses the better!

The only thing thats changed is the technology, sticks replaced by graphics. If anything all these kids playing games are making a more intelligent generation. Kids have to solve puzzles, learn coordination skills, learn to co-operate to complete tasks etc.
Games don't create violent children, shite parents and abuse are just some of the things that do . . .

"In my day" the big thrill was when Ludo got a pop-o-matic dice. I think most of the games are great for kids, as long as they socialise and have other hobbies as well what's the problem?

Yes, and we all remember when that led to the great Ludo riots of 1979 and the ensuing orgy of violence and depravity.

I'm not going to even mention the mayhem that the Durham University Tournaments of 1982 caused. Lets throw a veil over that time

Another gem from a parent that is happy to stick his sprog infront of a computer all day then wonder why at 15 years old he doesn't know how to interact or socialise with other kids.

I'd rather my kids went out and hit each other with sticks, scraped their knees, ran through stinging nettles, actually made real friends instead of cyber friends, ran down the street in mid winter wearing their coats just by the hoods on their heads...came home wet and covered in mud after having fun.....than sat at the computer or games console all day like a shop dummy with a frontal labotomy.

I know I've kinda sorta joked about it before but are you actually one of the cavemen from the Geico advert?

I do agree with you (its ok it wont happen too often) I loathe the amount of time that parents think it is acceptable to park their children in front of the TV or a PC for a quiet life.
Comp/IT idiots abound in industry today, No people skills are a major drawback for advancement in their careers. They also have great difficulty in forming personal relationships but thats another thread.

Saying that, apart from when I'm at work, and games friday every other week when we tend to shoot each other in CoD, Unreal etc games, I hardly play any games these days, last game I got was Fear, and I hardly played it at all.

I LOVE Banzai. We used to play along with pennies and the kids got really upset when they lost.

No I just think that kids falling over, falling out with each other, and encountering all the little dangers of playing outside should be far more important to the mental development of kids and f**king about with a paddle for 5 hours aday. If anything it teaches then interaction with others, how to make friends, how to repair friendships, not to go near stinging nettles etc etc I mean what good to a kid is learning how to kill Lord Brutalbastard from the planet Id FFS?
