Kids have always been involved 'in mindless violence' as you call it - 100 years ago kids pointed sticks at each other and pretended they had guns. This sounds like another "my kid is bad and its the computers fault" - geez, the sooner parents learn parenting skills and stop looking for excuses the better!
The only thing thats changed is the technology, sticks replaced by graphics. If anything all these kids playing games are making a more intelligent generation. Kids have to solve puzzles, learn coordination skills, learn to co-operate to complete tasks etc.
Games don't create violent children, shite parents and abuse are just some of the things that do . . .

I'd rather my kids went out and hit each other with sticks, scraped their knees, ran through stinging nettles, actually made real friends instead of cyber friends, ran down the street in mid winter wearing their coats just by the hoods on their heads...came home wet and covered in mud after having fun.....than sat at the computer or games console all day like a shop dummy with a frontal labotomy.

I know I've kinda sorta joked about it before but are you actually one of the cavemen from the Geico advert?
I do agree with you (its ok it wont happen too often) I loathe the amount of time that parents think it is acceptable to park their children in front of the TV or a PC for a quiet life.
Comp/IT idiots abound in industry today, No people skills are a major drawback for advancement in their careers. They also have great difficulty in forming personal relationships but thats another thread.

But speaking of games, did see a banzai dvd boardgame which looked like a good laugh

especially after you read the confessions thread in the lounge.

Very creative, we both loved it.
