Jeez Mark, you are very bitter and twisted. Fine, take your big car and big house, I personally like my little flat and I wouldn't have a car if you paid me, I'd rather have culture, like eating with a knife and fork at the same time, and have castles on my doorstep.
Also I've news for you about those 'foreigners' you keep talking about. When you move to the US you will be the 'foreigner' (or 'alien' as they will lovingly term you).
And Btw I DO live in London, my council tax bill is in English only and so are all the notices in my doctors. At least we are not near to becoming a bilingual country like the US. In Boston all the subway signs are in Spanish too, and at least We have Easter and Christmas holidays, not 'Spring break' and 'Holidays.'
And I bet you wear open toed sandals and eat cous cous,
- boo hoo.

STOP ****ING SHOUTING, WE ALL KNOW YOUR AN ASSHOLE SO YOU CAN STOP PROVING IT TO US NOW!

How dare you call me a nasty piece of work then write what you write. I am not cranky, it was an honest reply, if you can't take honesty then take that self inflated ego and live in the mountains you like so much.

You know nothing about me or my situation. There are no jobs here, I have applied for jobs at car rental places, lowes and all other places other than what my degree, I have even applied for Math Teachers positions so don't ****ing presume anything or when you get here you will be living in the mountains out of fear and not because you like them.

You don't get free healthcare or dental, you will be paying for it somewhere. I am amazed that you spent 10 years here yet seem to know so little about America.

Good Luck Sparky, your going to need it

Luckily for you we don't pay any taxes in NC. We don't pay 7% sales tax, 30% income tax, 10% annual property tax (county to county variations), 1% annual property tax on cars, boats and jet skis. The good news is that NC is in financial trouble and won't introduce a lottery so you can guarentee these taxes are going up . "HEY 2 THINGS IN LIFE GUARENTEED TAXS AND DEATH"

Wait till you get here and see how corrupt the government is, what bunch of ****ing idiots they all are and if you where hiring you wouldn't put Bush in charge of the Fries at McDonalds - yet everyone thinks he is great and doing a great job. I don't understand it.
"PROBABLY BECAUSE THEY HAVE SOMEONE WHO SPEAKS A LANGUAGE THEY UNDERSTAND, RATHER THAN SPINS EVERYTHING IN LEGAL TERMS AND ACTUALLY ANSWERS THE QUESTION - FIND ME A POLITICIAN WHO ISNT CORRUPT AND ILL SHOW YOU ROCKING HORSE SHIT "

You really are in for a shock when you get here,

"NO IM NOT I USED TO LIVE THERE ALBEIT 10 YEARS AGO AND IN WA STATE"

you actually beleive the hype

"SORRY AS SPIKE LEE SAID - DONT BELIEVE THE HYPE - TOTALLY AGREE, BUT MY JOB PAYS $30,000 MORE THAN IN THE UK"

and like Darrenb and a bunch of others think the UK is shit

"WE'RE GETTING THERE - AS LABOUR SAY"

and moving to America is that answer to all there prayers.

"FOR MY FAMILY AND ME PERSONALLY YES - $30,000 MAKES A DIFFERENCE AND I GET FREE HEALTHCARE, DENTAL, VISION AS WELL"

Here's a Newsflash Sparky, its only geography - you will still be the same arsehole just in a new and warmer location.

Thats MR Asshole to you,

I only presumed you had not tried for other positions, as the picture you have given on your various posts indicated in your own words "i only had 4 interviews" since you arrived in NC.

What am I a Fu****g mind reader now !!

If you cant take constructive argument, dont go blow a gasket through your own failings in life.
Better still I'll buy you a big box of matches, when I get over there so you can light those vaporous gases and blow you self back across the pond you miserable wretch.

Yours MR asshole

3 interviews actually, and yeah I live in an area with hardly any Hi tech business' I am just going to sit on my ass and wait for one of them to have an opening. There are no jobs here and they are not going to hire someone with an engineering degree to sweep the streets when they can get someone didn't graduate from high school. The chances are I will leave when something better comes along.

You really don't know how much your posting pissed people off do you. You have got all defensive after people have turned on you and are now trying brown nose people by telling them "at least they have a sense of humour".

In your words - Wake up and smell the coffee, now play nice and stop taking on everyone on the NG after you have upset them.

Your obviously not a mind reader because I can't see that you have ****ed yourself.

I am happy, I have done nothing but laugh as I have written these replies to you because you don't get it.

Agreed! I really do not understand where people get this idea that care in old age should be provided free!

At present, if you have significant assets you can choose where you would like to spend your final years/days! Rather than a Nursing Home, you can choose to stay in your own home and pay for private nursing care. If you do not have assets, you are afforded little choice when it comes to care home options!!

Unfortunately, many people see it as their right that their parents wealth is for them to inherit! I see it that if you have assets then why not use them to pay for a better quality of life?

There's still a state nursing home in Blackmill- near my mums...wouldn't ever want to end up in there though- not very nice. Listen to this one - my mother's next door neighbour has a heart condition and can't walk up the very steep hill (mountainside really) they live on. So she gets a new car every two years, taxed and maintained courtesy of the NHS... now that's the sort of thing that should be stopped. In the village there's assisted living flats for the elderly,,half of them empty. My mother could apply for one sell her house, pocket the money and have her rent paid if she wanted to. They also still have home help, nurses like the old district nurses, and attendance allowance can still be claimed for anyone looking after an aged relative or friend.

In US you'd better have assets to retire with (people start retirement funds when they start work), otherwise you are in deep doodoo. There's a pension crisis here too- and the full age for retirement (if you were born after 1959) is 67...that'll go up to 70 soon though, I'm sure. The government rewards you with extra benefits if you work till 70 and don't claim your Social Security till then. If you retire before 67 and claim your benefits, they reduce your benefits permanently. Social security will run out unless the government does something- haven't done much yet! And many people have lost their individual retirement funds ..Enron, Worldcom, etc etc. Not good at all here for pensioners.

Those are just names. They mean nothing really. There is a tremendous lack religious belief in the UK. Notice I said belief not church goers...

Did you know that there are 10 times more pubs in the UK than religious buildings (including empty ones). I'm not trying to antagonize you. This is just the sad truth.

Most of the children's programming in the UK now caters to a more indian flavour. You will see a show called Tikkabilla my kids love it. It celebrates the indian way of life in an off hand fashion. We all love our indian food and proberly could not due without our curry night. That's life - I'm not against indians.

To everybody out there:

All countries change and you just have to accept it. Find somewhere you are happy and try you darnedest to get there and make a go of it. You know in your heart whats important to you - so follow the rules and go for it.

But please respect others opinions....

But Ranjini is right we do have those little houses, mine is 800 sq ft roughly and just sold for $360,000.
<<snip>>

My advise is stop bloody day dreaming the lot of you about olde england - its gone and going fast, no culture being taught unless of course you foreign, no history in schools, because it might upset the ethnics, foreigners etc.
If you have issues with foreigners Mark, I think you'll get a rude awakening in NC. North Carolina has the fastest growing Hispanic/Latino population in the country. Spanish signage is not at all unusual in the Triangle. The US was built on immigration and that is still very much the case so you'll see many immigrants from the Indian subcontinent and Chinese too in the Triangle.

<<snip>>

And before all the Labour lovies in Florida start writing back there usual mantra, can I just say "Hypocrites" the lot of you.
Your all bloody sunshine socialists, living in the biggest capitalist market on the planet.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention all those who think free healthcare is still going to be here in the UK, wake up and smell the coffee.
The government ( Labour )have admitted that if you have the ability to pay they are begining to look at this option for the future, they have finally admitted that they cant run the NHS in its exisiting set up in todays market or in the future. One way or another you will end up paying somehow.
If you think the UK has problems with its health service, you'll probably recognise the problems the US has with its healthcare too. I've read (and if I find the source, I'll post it) that 30% of the US population does not have health insurance. That's approximately 83,000 people.

<<snip>>

Also dont forget when you retire here and end up in an old peoples "private" care home ( there are no state ones anymore ) they will take your little cosy home and sell it from under you to pay for your care. I know your thinking thats ok we'll sign it over to the children - sorry, tax office has just closed that loophole too.
A saying comes to mind when I read your complete post above. "Out of the fying pan and into the fire".

At the moment I'm literally pigging out on bacon, gammon, sausages, flavoured crisps and anything I can think of that I won't be able to get in the US!

I've already bought Marmite (much to the horror of my wife), Coleman's mustard, Galaxy chocolate, yorkshire pudding mix and bacon flavoured crisps to take with me.

I'm pretty sure you can get cornflour in the US. I don't use it myself when making gravy though.
