Which blanket statement? I know that Texas has a variety of tempertures, weather patterns and geographies, just like NC does.

That one?
Most parts gets the pipsqueaks, some parts may get the monsters, but really only the far northern parts of the state come anywhere near Tornado Alley standards.

So some parts of Texas get the monster tornadoes, whereas nowhere in NC does. I will try to make that clear in future discussions of differential meteorology.

Yeah, the parts that are about as close to us on the coastal plains as Raleigh NC is to say Philadelphia.....

Thanks for the offer to lay off the generalizations on the whole of Texas though - mucho appreciado - lets hope others follow suit, and not just limited to weather, as it will be a lot more helpful to folk coming here looking for useful info.

I know East Texas is different.

But otherwise it is a place where they cook all meat as if it was chicken.

I don't think I've ever seen 'gator roadkill round here before, but the floods have flushed them out and I've just seen 3 in a 4 mile stretch - they'll be on someones barbie before the sun goes down!

I ate some gator once. It was chewy, almost rubbery. I suspect that the chef didn't know how to cook it properly.

I think they keep to lower altitudes, never seen one over a mile high.

Not sure how big this one was, a 1000 lb would not be abnormal.

Somebody took out a Bull last weekend, Rancher not happy, apparently worth $8,000.

Not sure what you mean by 'monster'. However, NC does indeed get destructive, even fatal, tornadoes.

At the risk of repeating myself in this thread (first pointed out in post #50), this page from North Carolina State University says:

Although North Carolina has fewer tornadoes than the Midwest, we still face an average of 31 tornadoes a year.

More recently in 2011, during the three-day period from April 14-16, more than 177 tornadoes erupted across the country. Thirty of those were confirmed in North Carolina, and left 22 dead in their wake.
