We could live anywhere really and are financially secure, have looked for businesses near our holiday home in Miami but not seen anything suitable or interesting so far. We are here on a B2 visa at mo for another couple of months. Have seen a possibility in South California which is E2 appropriate but not sure about going right over to the West Coast or we could go back home to the UK buy a bigger house in the country and just settle down. The weather is probably the only negative about the UK for us but it is a big negative especially at the moment, in fact the UK may even be washed away at this rate )
Anyway I know it's a personal decision but would love to hear your thoughts and experiences. Hubby is really up for an adventure here but he is the risk taker and I'm the thinker, well worrier I guess! Thanks for your input!

Florida

Low rate of Violent Crime

Problem with "great weather" is that judgement is so subjective! I would say Florida weather is uniquely awful (frequent torrential rain, excessively hot, humid, regular extreme life-threatening weather events.)

awful ??? Frequently
Please.

the last few days its been beautiful, if we don't hit the beach today it will be tomorrow. October -April the weather is great. May and Sept are bearable.

so for 3-4 months yes its hot, which IMO is far better than 3-4(-5-6) months freezing your nuts off

torrential rain..............usually about an hour a day in summer, otherwise not (plus its WAARM rain)

humid yes

regular extreme life threatening events ????? where ? did I miss an alien invasion or an asteroid strike ?? I think you might find more people have died in Californian earthquakes than Florida hurricanes the past 25 years or so

If you come to California you are within relatively easy drives between locations like the Sierra's, Death Valley, Grand Canyon, Carmel, Laguna Beach, Cambria, Lake Tahoe, Mammoth Lakes, Napa Valley, Big Sur...also arts and cultural activities. The Getty Museum, Hearst Castle.

Sorry do you live in California?

Have you seen the taxes?

Have you seen the crime rates?

Have you seen the laws stripping people of their rights to defend themselves?

Have you seen the massive effects of Illegal Immigration?

Did you seen the LA Riots?

High humidity, VS high taxes and high violent crime rates...

Which one is more harmful to you?

Hmmmm, these figures would seem to suggest there is more violent crime in Florida per 1,000 than California...

Florida - http://www.neighborhoodscout.com/fl/crime/

California - http://www.neighborhoodscout.com/ca/crime/

Just sayin'

Yeah one is way safe then the other, Also you the only thing you have to worry about is Hurricanes, far better then Earthquakes which can happen at anytime with zero warning..

Plus you do have the add rights of it being a Shall Issue CCW state, and one understand and defends the 2nd Amendment..

Furthermore lower taxes, great beaches and Disney world(far better then Disneyland)

Cases of violent crime in Florida 4.87 per 1000 against a national average of 3.9.
Crimes per square mile in Florida 70 against an average of 39.3 (almost double - ouch!).

You like to deal in facts, so how exactly do those figures make Florida a low crime area? I'm guessing you were brainwashed in to believing Florida was largely crime free huh? Got more bad news buddy, Santa Claus doesn't exist.
