yes it obviously starts at a very young age this fascination men have with putting things in places they shouldn't put things in..

you know I heard the Army introduced it to discourage masturbation....wonder if there's any truth in it?....also to bring up a post of lions.....no foreskin = less masturbation?= crazy serial killers?

Maybe you're confusing Circumcision with the taking of Bromide? I hope the army docs didnt also make that same potentially painful mistake. :scared:

Not strictly speaking true. Many studies have shown medical benefits. However, the fact is that the infections etc which are supposedly reduced by circumcision are pretty rare to begin with (UTIs in small boys, penile cancer etc etc).

Besides which, it seems to me like shoehorning the facts to fit (i.e. circumcision has been around for ages, they are only now doing studies which show medical benefits and are trying to use that as a justification for the act) - it certainly didn't start off for medical reasons. I remember reading somewhere that the origins of male circumcision may be in child sacrifice... did anyone else read the same thing?

We stopped routinely docking puppy dog tails because it was seen as inhumane and cruel, despite the fact that pro- tail dockers were touting medical reasons (docked tails don't get caught, broken or gnawed on by rats blah blah). Do you think we'll ever manage to get around to making the same decision for human babies?

Oh no..... not the circ wars.....

This is one of the most controversial subjects on the Internet. Because it involves the parents' religious and "medical" beliefs, and that decision is more or less permanently visited upon their infant son, it brings everyone out of the woodwork. Toss in the fact that it also affects the boy's future sex life and locker room talk, and ..... BOOOOOOOOOOOOOM

I am so glad to not have had to make this decision.

This is the ONLY reason I believe circ has an edge (ouch) on uncirc in terms of medicine. Of course, the male isn't promiscuous, then it isn't an issue.

I personally would not circ and leave it up to my son. Circing at an older age is not nearly as painful as some would have you believe. From the guys I know who have had it done, it sucks, but.... so does childbirth. If the boy wants to look like everyone else, he'll do it, or if more medical research turns up links to support it, etc.

Erm, female genital mutilation is a much much more severe modification that leads to a life of constant pain and extremely high risks of death in childbirth, not to mention that the clitoris is removed, meaning No Orgasm Ever. That's a very very clear case of medical risk being higher *with* the "circumcision" than without. It is an atrocity which should be outlawed -- and which is carried out when a girl nears puberty, meaning she has every memory of being painfully violated.

There are extremely, extremely slight medical benefits to being circ'd but not overwhelmingly so. I say leave it up to the boy when he's older. Other than that, it is a religious issue. Just as female genital mutilation is outlawed in some countries, some people wish to outlaw non-medically-necessary male circumcision. I would not go that far, but I would not circ a son.

I would. I would also outlaw parents giving their kids stupidly inane and obviously ridiculous names which can lead to a life of torment and riducule for the poor child.

yeah I don't think you can really compare female v's male circumcision.....it's like comparing having your tubes tied to having a vasectomy

nowadays women can actually choose to get their pussy flaps trimmed , I saw on the t.v this doctor who does it for women who are unhappy with the size of their labia.....god damn it....do we have to be unhappy..with EVERY aspect of our bodies??
