From: Riverland, SA - Beds/Cambs/Nhants was home in UK

Don't watch Life on Mars ... doing too much at this time of year to watch any telly!
20 years behind and loving it! I CAN let my kids play outside and not think they'll get stolen or fiddled with! [and so many other's it's too hard to list]
To OP - what bugs me?
Naff radio - I didn't really like Radio 1 when in England - now compared to the two whole radio options I can receive I'd pay for Radio 1 (I know I did via licence fee!
)Bacon that's like ham!
No salt & vinegar Disco's in the shop and I'm too tight to buy imports!
Now sat thinking if there's anything else but honestly I can't think of anything else that bugs me ... gee I'm a bit too happy aren't I!

[Pom is used a nice term round here]
[I prefer stubbies to pints or quarts etc]
[I drive over 50 kms to anywhere but don't pass anyone as a rule]
[I've finally given up tea for coffee but can't do iced coffee like all fellow South Australian's!]

We was looking at that area...from Stanwell Park down to Thirroul but stopping short of the Gong. We rent on the Northern Beaches but want to buy and I think we would get better VFM on southern beaches. Direct train line to Sydney is a bonus and even the drive is pleasant. Thoughts?
Average no frills 3 bed house with no ocean view seems to go for about 500k in Thirroul - another bedroom or a skimpy sea view will be more like 600k. Good luck - maybe we'll be neighbours soon.

here's my list
Get a grip people, this is AUSTRALIA not the UK, accept that it's different and get on with enjoying this marvellous place and its people.
TP
(edited to say: this is not aimed at the OP, its just things that bug me the most)
- People who move to Australia and expect it to be the UK
- People who whinge that things are more expensive than the UK
- People who whinge that things are slower than the UK
- People who whinge they pay more tax than they did in the UK
- People who whinge about the police being stricter than in the UK
- People who think they are better than Australians, particularly at driving (there are equally as many poor drivers in the UK too you know!)

How about not expecting the UK to be Australia?

But...........there are certain little things about this place that really get on my wick. I thought I would share some of them with you. Forewarned is forearmed as they say.
1. Telstra. Come back BT all is forgiven.
2. Bigpond Wireless. Come back BT all is forgiven
3. Gash tea bags. Luckily you can get 240 PG Tips for $35 off the net 48 hour delivery.
4. Drivers. Well technically you cant call it driving. Its just aiming really and they are not even very good at that.
5. Schooners. Nuff said.
6. Being called a Pom. Dont get me started.

7. Beaut Utes with more aerials than Joddrell Bank. What is that about?
8. Offies that close at 8pm
9. The expectation that I usually drink my beer warm. We have fridges in England too you know.
10. Being asked when I am going home.............................................. ..................
..........................to be continued.
Hate being called a '''pom'' too. I disagree that it is intended affectionately.

Jeeez Guys, I feel sorry for your suffering here.
We should try to warn all those people who are applying to migrate just how bad it is down under.
Now pass me another beer, throw a shrimp on the barbie, sit down on the beach and let me tell you what it was like when I arrived…

have got used to it in the 8 months we've been here, but now............. OxForex sent us a digital/internet radio as a Christmas pressie
and it picks up zillions of channels and is brilliant been listening to some great stuff, cannot believe it May well tune into our local radio though from time to time, the presenters are about 108 and it's sooooooooooo bad it's funny

I like everything else, different but it's great - have just put up the Xmas tree which feels really strange but would rather be in t-shirt and thongs than wrapped up in umpteen layers

Most of the presenters on Aussie radio (or TV for that matter) wouldn't even get a look-in for a job as a presenter in the UK. They wouldn't even get an interview.
