She did it all wrong. She should have met Trump stated her opinion against the ban and then handed in her resignation. Instructing Justice department lawyers not to make legal arguments defending Trump's exec orders on refugees was out of line

Out of interest, how did they know? Presumably s/he used their US passport to enter the US - were they questioned about citizenship status, or was it because they used the NZ passport at the other end?

Do American passports not show place/country of birth?

US passports show a persons country of birth. A naturalized US citizen should never use the passport of their previous country. The INS don't like it

I use my British passport to enter almost every country bar the US.

Was he trying to reenter on a New Zealand passport, because if he wasn't, then what evidence do they have of dual citizenship being used, other than his US passport listing a country that allows it, which technically the US does, even though 'officially' they don't?

This is just moving the goalposts and it smacks to high heaven of fascism.

I get it, and it's easy for me to say because I became a citizen when we had a sane, legitimate President in the White House, but you might want to consider applying before there is some screwy change to the rules.

It's a lot of money, I know, and I fully understand why you don't want to become a citizen of the US under the current climate, but then again, the US is so much more than the mentally defective twunt who is temporarily at the helm.

I wouldn't do it, There are certain rules about using a passport other than a US one that could possibly cause problems with the INS.

I knew a guy who had his green card confiscated at the US border because they found out he had been living and working in Canada.

You never know with the INS. What one INS official might just pass over another one might not and afterwards it's damned hard to get it right again

Only when it comes to entering and exiting the US, afaik. I use my UK passport to enter the UK.

travel.state.gov specifically states "Use of the foreign passport does not endanger U.S. nationality."

I appreciate that, at this particular point in time, CBP isn't necessarily too concerned about what the law actually says, though. Still, the Supreme Court was fairly unequivocal: "Congress has no power under the Constitution to divest a person of his United States citizenship absent his voluntary renunciation thereof."

This is a completely different issue. He abandoned his permanent resident status when he ceased to be a permanent resident. Nothing at all to do with using a different passport.

I am a bit more keen on getting Canadian citizenship so I have a back up if the US ever gets too insane.

Only thing that keeps me is the fairly hefty fee attached.

But getting it would mean being more secure in Canada.

Yeah, I totally agree with you. I wouldn't do it. Use your US passport if you want to avoid problems with INS.

Country of birth is printed in your PP. The immigration officer can see that plus much more info when he/she swipes your PP.

Its not that they don't like it...it is illegal to leave or enter the US using a foreign PP if you are a USC.
