Never tried Poutine. Not sure how I feel about cheese curds.
Surely Brits win the award for most expensive Petrol?

Can we all take a moment to say thank you for Canadian bacon, Maple Syrup and Tim Hortons though? I'd have to drone that stuff over a 'northern wall' (well the Tim Hortons anyway as I've never seen a pop up stand in NYC).

Smoked meat, of course, is an entirely different matter. And tourtiere can also be good.

Tourtiere: A French-Canadian Twist On Christmas Pie : The Salt : NPR

I was eating gravy chips and cheesy chips in the UK before I even knew what poutine was. Never thought to combine them until then, though.

Smoked meat and tourtiere sound decent as **** though.

Come to Wisconsin one day and feast yourself on the delight of all things cheese. I like 'em but I don't mind if others don't because that means there are more for me

UK beats Canada for petrol prices. I think Germany or one of the Scandinavian countries has the most expensive overall, though. However, it's still quite a bit more expensive in Canada than it is down here.

I've waxed lyrical about the CA$31.00 12 packs of domestic beer before, I shan't waste everyone's time doing it again

Smoked meat is essentially Jewish-Canadian beef pastrami. (There are smoked meat fans who will bristle at that comment, but I'm standing by it.)

Incidentally, Montreal is also a pretty good town for bagels. You can get aspects of a New York deli experience in Montreal for a fraction of the price.

I have heard good things about Montreal in general, actually. That being said, beyond airports, I've not actually spent any time in a major Canadian city. When I go there, it's to visit my mate from the UK and he lives wayyyyyy out in the sticks. So it's lots of fast food and beer for us when I'm there. Not that I am complaining, of course.

There are plenty of cheap bagel places in NYC if you know where you're going :sneaky:

I never used to rate bagels, then I moved here. Ironically the most famous deli here is now permanently closed.

I've only flown through Montreal, but from what I saw - it was a beautiful city. Toronto too - it was super clean and friendly (also super expensive).

Montreal and Ottawa bagels are better than New York bagels.

Anyone listen to NPR today?
This programme How The U.S. Immigration System Compares To Japan, Canada And The U.K. | Here & Now

at the end the professor says that undocumented immigration from Mexico is near zero now. In which case, why a wall.

I think this thread should be called the FFS thread.

I called my sheriff's office in Austin today to say well done to her for standing up to Trump and our pathetic Governor.

Listen to this 15 minutes of an episode of This American life

https://www.thisamericanlife.org/rad...oon?act=3#play

It explains quite a bit about how many people from Central America are just coming across the border. And under Obama there was a policy of 'catch and release' - the migrants just disappeared and got to stay in the USA.

Just a few observations from the frozen tundra where we do get internet access in our Igloos.

We have figured out how to move the football 10 yards in 3 downs not 4.
The reason you pay more for beer in Canada is because you are actually buying beer.
Pineapple is not meant to go on Pizza.
We have more than 2 parties to vote for.
Allegedly we all have access to affordable healthcare.
We don't have Trump.

We the North rest our case.

I support Trump in withholding Federal money from sanctuary cities. Churches which also offer sanctuary should start paying Federal and State taxes

Pop-up stand? There are whole temples to the abomination here and here :sneaky:

I had a lovely trip to Montreal last Fall, but the coffee played no role in the loveliness. None whatsoever.

Why on earth would you want Tim Horton's? Anyhow they have a fair amount of US locations, I want to say around 900.

And that ice wall would melt in this part of Canada....:p
