I would never have got served at 12. I still very much looked my age back then
By the time I was 16/17, though, I looked like I was in my 20s. I was able to buy fags no problem at 15 but I was nearly 17 when I was finally able to get served at the offie.

Even if they bothered to ask (rare) "it's for my dad" was always an acceptable answer.
I was picking ciggys up for him from the corner shop by the time I was 8 or so.

That'll be why, then. Very early 90s when I was 12, and mid 90s by the time I was able to buy beer successfully. Different times, man, different times.
