Stuff I am watching/tried watching:
Vikings - Mixed feelings about this. The production values are great and - except for a smattering of historical inaccuracies - they did a good job of capturing the period. After a slow start it has become one of the more exciting shows on telly at the moment. The only problem is that the characters are a bunch of tossers who go around attacking innocent people and smashing up their stuff - yes that's what the real Vikings were like (in spite of what the revisionists might say) but it does make it hard to like them and care about what happens to them. So I'm still watching it but I am rooting for the Saxons and the Franks & hoping Ragnar gets his comeuppance.
Game of Thrones - Excellent as ever, though I am still finding it hard to keep up with the vast number of characters.
Borgias - Looks like there will be a revenge arc to this season which looks promising.
Nashville - Great show. Yes it is about country music but it's really a showcase for the Americana stuff which is excellent. Does a good job building up the characters.
Nurse Jackie - I'm a real late-comer to this one but enjoying season 1 so far.
Da Vinci's Demons - The production values are awesome but the lead character is irritating, the bad guys are one dimensional and the plot is all over the place. Gave up after episode 1.
It's like the US healthcare system in that the TV can be the best in the world but you have to pay through the nose for it.

Here are some things I worked out how to do on the Roku:
1) Youtube - For reasons unknown the Roku doesn't have a Youtube Channel (there appears to be some dispute over the fact google want Roku to use their HTML5 interface). There used to be a Roku channel called VideoBuzz which you could use but it got shut down. The best solution is to use the 'Twonky Beam'- see instructions below:
http://howto.cnet.com/8301-11310_39-...ideos-on-roku/
After this is setup you can use your apple device or android to send videos to the Roku - much as you would with airplay on apple TV. I use an ipod touch or ipad to find videos and then use the Twonky beam to view them on the TV via the roku - with the launch of the official channel this is pretty much flawless and streams very well.
2) Playing video files - I hear there are terrible people who continue to watch UK TV by downloading video files to their computer in the US via torrents, cyberlockers and the like. I suppose the Roku is great for these folks because they can copy the files to a flash drive, plug it into the Roku's USB port and play them off there (the roku plays mp4s and mkvs - if another format http://handbrake.fr/ should be used to convert); or they could run a Plex server off their computer and have the Roku stream all the video files off their computer to the TV:
http://plexapp.com/roku/
Naturally this setup - especially with a Plex server also works very well if you are moving to the US and rip all your DVDs to MP4's or MKV's before you leave. That way you will not have a load of discs to transport over (which won't work here due to region coding). Instead you can fit hundreds of movies on an external hard drive - then setup a plex server on your workstation. The Plex will then download metadata and artwork for all your movies/tv series and you can access it via the Roku/Tablet. It will look like your own version of Netflix.

I've started on season 1 and will see how it goes - I figure it will follow the fate of most US TV series and get progressively flogged to death over time.

It was on TNT.

Anyone seen Hemlock? Maybe for the Netflix thread as it seems to be a US netflix exclusive, but shown on regular tele everywhere else in the world.
Just finished a 13 part series I think?
A description seems to be American Horror meets Twin Peaks and after watching the first episode, would have to say it's very weird.
Bit grim with blood, some weird boob action and very green tinge to the whole thing. Worth a punt on a few episodes perhaps.
Blackstone, Canadian show based on native indian reserve and politics between the reserve and Ontario government. Was catching the repeats doing the rounds as the second series seems to have started a few weeks back.
Anyway, bit of a slow start in the first episode but worth a punt. Seems to be a lot of corruption, depression and infighting between characters who have never left the reserve v those who have and have come back to try to improve things and the like.

Did NOT watch the season finale for The Following last night- was a good girl and went off to bed to read.
Sigh.
Sigh.
