Re: Statistically, it was only a matter of time
Just to update....
$2800 and change was the estimate from the bodyshop so insurance totaled it. We owed $3400, insurance was going to write us a check for $3600 after deductable but we chose to buy it back for $700. A new headlight enclosure and some TLC with a prybar on the door/fender gap and she'll be as good as new. And no more payments...

Sounds like a deal to me...especially if its a good run around..

Yep, I think they use a figure of 75% of the car's value in damage to total it. And it has been a great car... 170,000 miles with no trouble and 38mpg. It turned out to be a pretty good deal for us. We're going to keep making the "payment" into our savings acct so we have a decent down payment when the time comes to replace it.

ABY, are you going to live with the dents, then? It'll never be as crashworthy in that spot again. I was hit in '93 in a '92 car.... damage would have totalled most cars but mine was an Acura and new. Would have preferred that it have been an older car, had to live with life-long alignment problems. Stupid bitch who hit me tried to do a runner and blew out her tires.... only good thing was the bystanders went down the road and dragged her back.... then she and boyfriend lied about insurance and their insurance refused to pay so it had to go on my uninsured motorists policy.
It is illegal in Texas to take the deer, I know that, because otherwise people might hunt with their trucks. Seriously.

Hope you're OK. Hitting a dear is something I dread.

Same here. The state employ a company that drive round and collect all the road kill.
