I'm sorry? Black people are just sitting there waiting to be shot? I don't think so.

When dealing with someone complicit in five muders and seven other shootings, it hardly seems like an over-reaction. It is fairly obvious that given an opportunity/clear line of sight he would have shot as many more police officers as he could.

So what do you suggest the police should have done?

Starved him out, tear gas, CS gas, sniper many other options.

I just fear that using bombs may escalate the problem and cause more shootings.

True , they are just driving their cars waiting to be pulled over and get shot. this is how they feel, it may not be what happens in reality.

Either situation is not good.

How exactly is using a sniper functionally different from using an anti-personel bomb? Other than it would have put another officer in line-of-sight.

Would it have been preferable to use a shotgun mounted to a robot? .... I guess the headlines would have been less inflammatory. Describing what they used as a "bomb" makes it sound like a 500lb GBU!

I think the shotgun approach would have been favorable over the explosive. But most Police don't consider consequences of their actions.

Yeah, apparently Newt Gingrich said this:

“It took me a long time, and a number of people talking to me through the years to get a sense of this,” Gingrich said on a Facebook Live broadcast. “If you are a normal, white American, the truth is you don’t understand being black in America and you instinctively underestimate the level of discrimination and the level of additional risk.”
Newt?????????????

I'm sure some black people do feel that way. The ones who have a family member who is a cop.

There are a lot of police out there that don't fully understand what it's like to be black.

How many police do you know. Have you ever done a ride along and experienced first hand how they work and think. On what do you base your opinion of how most police think.

And, I would suggest, there are a lot of black people out there who don't fully understand what it's like to be a cop. ..... Two cops were executed a few years ago in one of the most dangerous (predominantly black) neighbourhoods of Charlotte, NC, shot in the back (of the head, IIRC) in cold blood!

Probably true. Again , it's probably more a social justice and social education issue, that neither "side" understands or trusts the other.

Hopefully the white people in BE will make an effort to make black people feel included in the community.

Please have the good manners to not change my comments without doing me the courtesy of acknowledging you have done so.

Human beings tend to act the same regardless of the wrapping they come in. Good ones are good and the arseholes are arseholes regardless of their skin color. That is normally the defining quality as to how a cops treats you.

There are a lot of black police officers and both the DART chief and DPD chief are black.

Stop talking about these groups as if they're two separate monoliths.
