Thanks for the info. Cars are getting far too complex. No wonder no one can fix their own cars anymore.

The worst thing is you can't do stupid tricks in the parking lot with them

Why would you want to park at an intersection? Isn't "Park" only used when parking? I am sure the "N" means "Not to be used".

Plus that means I have to take my eyes off my phone.

N is for when you break down and someone needs to push you. Most commonly used in Range Rovers.

My car has a handbrake but I never use it because I'll forget to disengage it since it's been 10 years since I've driven a manual. Usually I just keep my foot on the brake but if I'm stuck waiting for a mile long freight train to go by I will put it in park.

Yep, as much as I like the automatic brake feature, it does mean you can't do handbrake turns. Started in my Capri, then perfected them in a Nissan something in the desert (on sandstone, not sand) in Saudi. Still hanker after a TVR and some smooth asphalt...

What's to like or what's to dislike, its just a brake

Wow - I had the first car from new up to 75,000 miles and never once changed the brakes. I live on a VERY steep hill (like, stupid steep) and used the feature every day when picking up mail from the mailbox. Also drove quite a bit in SF.

Note - the new car - a Lexus RX350 - doesn't automatically apply this brake; I have to 'press and hold' on the brake for about 3 seconds before the hill-start brake kicks in (with a corresponding light on the dash). At first I thought the new car didn't have the feature and was miffed! The old car (CRV) just 'did it' as soon as the brake was applied.

Thread title is 'Pet Peeves' ... tends to suggest that one will discuss likes/dislikes that are not earth-shattering.

Mine used to come on automatically if it was on a slight incline. On the off ramps I could feel them bind slightly as I put my foot on the had. This was on a Jeep.i was getting 25000 out of a set of rear pads

Exactly what he said: "you can't do handbrake turns".

ETA: Which in fact is pretty much what you said in post #2732.

Doesn't explain why they can't just keep the foot on the brake...

Agreed.

A similar situation happens with drivers here in the US with manual transmissions; instead of using the handbrake on a hill, they use the gas/clutch and brake, constantly rolling back a bit, then edging forward a bit, as they try to balance the engine against gravity. Quite nerve-racking on those San Francisco hills!

It depends on what music is playing and if they like to foot tap.

Presumably they have two feet. I can tap out a bass drum part with my left foot like a champ now :D

When you go somewhere for a bite to eat where you seat yourself like the grocery store cafe and you see people on their own sitting in the large tables with 4+ seats.
