I showed it to my (just finished) 6th grader...he claimed to have no idea till his just- finished 2nd grade sister reminded him that I'd shown it as a way of squaring off the footings on a playhouse we were building. I wasn't surprised that my eldest had forgotten, but I was amazed his sister remembered...she was probably in pre-K when we were doing it, and I hadn't even realized she was listenting!!! Scary good memory on her....

Far too many foods say to "keep refrigerated" but don't give a timescale for how long they will last in the fridge. If they need to be refrigerated then that implies that the bacteria growth in them needs to be slowed down. Unless they just mean "tastes better when cold".

Worst offender is salsa - how long is it meant to last? It is sometimes a few months between opening the jar and eventually remembering to buy the tortilla chips to eat it with. Mustards have been in there for years!

I used to keep bottled salsa until stuff started growing on it - then I would throw it away. Now I finish off an opened jar whenever I make soup or pasta sauce - jazzes it up nicely.

If mustard is in the fridge longer than the sell-by date, it's probably because no one likes it - may as well chuck it.

Yeah, salsa stays in our fridge until eaten or visibly spoiled. I/we tend not to worry too much about non-meat foods, perhaps not as much as we should, but meat I usually try gey eaten within 7-10 days. Deli meat seems to last longer, but I start to have doubts about it after 14 days. Anything fishy, is already spoiled after a week, so 4-5 days is the limit. It's cheese that drives me nuts- it can, and is, stored for months and years by the dairies, and yet is sold with a life of just a few weeks. Cheese normally gets eaten quickly, but unless it is too hard to cut or grate, I'll eat it no matter how old it is! :D

My d@mned Android phone, not content with "correcting" my spelling into completely different words from the one I wanted, it also has the even more irritating habit of adding other words completely. So to anyone that has read something I've posted, and wondered what a word is doing, completely out of context, I say "It's not me, it's my phone!". :frown:

It's on the left, just above the X. :)

If we were meant to add letters together, no one would have invented numbers.

That just means limit.

And retzie is right, actually. The limit as x tends to 8 can't be infinity, as x will never reach 8. It should say that the limit tends to infinity (as you add more 9s onto 7.9999999..., you add more zeros on to the number that (1/x-8) becomes). This will also be a negative number as x is always less than 8.

Plus, if x ever equalled 8, you'd end up with 1/0, which can't be calculated.

That isn't obscure. Maybe when we start getting into how to define dividing by zero, though.

Other than that, it can be graphed quite easily substituting for x. I like that kind of stuff :o
