Don't they usually say "Road fines doubled when workers present" or something: a leave we don't get on the UK side of the pond.
All traffic tickets are doubled between the orange road work signs, at least in MA and ME. Doesn't matter if people are there or if the project hasn't even started. At least in Maine, they usually cover the sign up with a tarp, so it doesn't count till they're ready, but they don't do that down my way. Added hassle is that the speed limit is also lowered a fair bit, but it's bad enough when that chunk of I-95 is already 50mph as it is :/ |
Re: Pet Peeves?
I used the Sylvania Headlight Restoration Kit, it worked pretty good. But I got too it early, before the plastic got too badly clouded. The cloudiness is usually caused by ultraviolet induced oxidation of the plastic, and it is on the outside.
If your problem really is on the inside, you might need to replace the housing. Regards, JEff

So did that stuff work? The lights on my Accord are horribly fogged - looks like mildew on the inside (like you, I think it looks mostly internal, but I'd like to be proved wrong!)

Re: Pet Peeves?
They may light up the road better within the range of the headlights, but they do not extend the range.
"A website touting the Sylvania SilverStar headlight bulb says it provides “up to 30 percent†greater visibility down the road. That sounds impressive until you read the fine print: “compared with worn standard halogen†bulbs. [the emphasis is mine] We found that the premium bulbs, as a group, deliver a whiter light and up to 19 percent more output than the standard or OE bulbs, and that can be more pleasing for drivers. But none of the premium bulbs allowed us to see farther on our headlight test course than the standard or OE bulbs. That’s because distance is determined more by the size and shape of the lamp’s reflector or lens than by the bulb. " http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/headlights0113.htm Regards, JEff

They're not quite so irritating when you have them in your car lighting up the road beautifully.

Re: Pet Peeves?
Whats with the growing trend in the "In Memoriam" messages made out using those transfer stickers on vehicles rear windscreens?
Absolutely tasteless, completely cheesy and totally classless. |

Re: Pet Peeves?
I haven't seen those yet, but it reminds me of the past when "Baby On Board" signs were all the rage. Invariably when I noticed a car with one I was moved to wonder, then why are you driving like an idiot? If you don't care about your own child, why should I?
Which leads me to the proliferation of roadside crosses with bouquets, usually placed in memory of a teenage driver who killed themself. The newspaper article about the accident tells us what a wonderful, well behaved, responsible person the kid was. And that the accident occurred at 3 AM. Regards, JEff

I remember a downhill road somewhere in West -by-god- Virginia, I've never SEEN so many dead, dumb people in one place. |

Fair enough. I have no direct comparison. My current car had HID's fitted and they're fantastic. That's all I can say about them. I've never tried to take them out and do a comparison against a standard bulb in the same car.

I'm kind of willing to give the family a pass though, since my brother was cycling to work a little after 5am, in charge of making cheese at a local dairy farm, when he got hit by a drunk driver. |
