Always pick a checkout with a young man. They are speedy, nice, and don't make so much silly small talk. The worst are old women - slow and chatty.

Yes, but some young men are not very good packers and your eggs and bread end up at the bottom of the bag under the canned goods, and the ice cream in the same bag as the rotisserie chicken...

Another reason I like to use the self checkout when I can - nobody can pack a bag the way I like it packed; bar one expert packer (a bloke) at Wally World by us.

Edit: Sorry, I hadn't read Yellowroom's post, above. :o

Unless you are buying a mix of salad vegetables, other fragile things, and potatoes and canned goods because the whole lot are likely to get dumped in the same bag(s) with your tomatoes and crackers crushed under 5lb of spuds and cans of soup.

Why are people who blow leaves and dust into the air allowed to have this as an occupation?

Because it's more fun than raking?

I love the way the packer holds each item 12 inches above the bottom of the bag and drops it.

THUD. THUD. THUD. :frown:

I'll give you that.

I have never used one myself but I would imagine it's sometimes unavoidable, however annoying it can be.

Because in the US in 2013, sometimes the only legal alternative is begging. :(

You don't need to, just place them on the metal plate in front of the bag. I always do for small numbers of items at local groceries, Lowes, and Home Depot.

That works in Home Depot, doesn't work in our local Hannafords nor Walmart. Thing lights up and has a massive fit :/

Anyway, todays peeve. Rubbish collection...always during morning commute too...wtf is up with that?

Bad enough having traffic, then you're stuck behind a stinking truck that's going really slow...and then the rubbish bins get knocked over and flap around on the road so makes it even more fun to drive.

Still better than being stuck behind a school bus.

Why do those ugly yellow ****ers have to stop at every single arsing side street, even if they are less than 50 yards apart. Surely two or three congregation areas on a route would make more sense?

Stupid arsewanking twatmonkeys. Thank the FSM our son walks to school
