In the grand scheme of things, the whole math/maths thing isn't so much of a big deal, there are arguments to be made for either - both are merely abbreviations of mathematics and there is no hard and fast rule for constructing abbreviations that are being broken here.

No, the fact that schools in America call it 'math' doesn't bother me. What bothers me are those schools who attempt to teach intelligent design as fact

I like this explanation the best:
Renaissance Europe, most of which was fearful of the Ottoman Empire, could not handle a "savior" that looked like a Muslim.

A similar thing is noticeable today with Fox news watchers.

Imagine being so devoid of critical thinking skills that you can't even reason out that a) he was Jewish and b) Islam didn't exist until nearly 600 years after the Palestinean-with-the-Greek-name in question died

a) Jews, Arabs - same-same except for their religions, both of which (the religions, and Christianity as well) are also closely related and have the same roots as the peoples.
b) The Renaissance, which is when the Italian-looking representation of Jesus originated, began roughly 1400 years after said Palestinean came and went, by which time Islam was well established.

True. Anyway, the good part of the explanation was the observation that "A similar thing is noticeable today with Fox news watchers."
