Re: Americans and fish
How many people have heard the following, or variation of the following, in reference to fish..."Does it taste fishy?"
Does it make you want to go over to the person, slap them in the face and say "IT'S FISH FOR F'CKS SAKE, WHAT DO YOU THINK IT WILL TASTE LIKE? BISCUITS?"

Pollock in fact is used mainly in stuff like fish sticks . get a fish sandwich in any fast food joint chances are its minced pollock YUCK. by the way all the kippers I have ever eaten were smoked herring not mackeral. that said. I love fish as long as its not "too fishy tasting" LOL so you see we "americans" do have a valid point when enquiring re the "fishiness" of a fish we are not familiar with. next time you want a great tasting fish try grouper its white flaky and not too "fishy"

Re: Americans and fish
I love fish and would eat it every day if I could. It's one of the reasons our grocery bill is so high because I will happily pay up to $20 a pound of some really nice line caught, non frozen copper river sockeye or king salmon. I have had many different kinds and will keep trying mew ones when I find them. I have not once tasted a fish that doesn't taste fishy. I get that some are stronger than others but they all taste like fish! It's like going to a cheese counter an picking up pieces of cheese and asking if they taste cheesy or going to an bottle shop and asking if beer tastes beery.

Mmm rainbow trout, grilled with a bit of lemon - simple but delicious
