Hello new to forum, and had to reply to this Well yeah some fish taste much more "fishy" than others. you mentioned pollock in another post now thats one strong oily tasting fish compared to ummmm flounder, sole ,grouper, etc.
Pollock in fact is used mainly in stuff like fish sticks . get a fish sandwich in any fast food joint chances are its minced pollock YUCK. by the way all the kippers I have ever eaten were smoked herring not mackeral. that said. I love fish as long as its not "too fishy tasting" LOL so you see we "americans" do have a valid point when enquiring re the "fishiness" of a fish we are not familiar with. next time you want a great tasting fish try grouper its white flaky and not too "fishy"

Your right kippers are herrings. I was having a "moment" one too many cocktails... well Thursday is the start of the weekend in my book!

I love fish and would eat it every day if I could. It's one of the reasons our grocery bill is so high because I will happily pay up to $20 a pound of some really nice line caught, non frozen copper river sockeye or king salmon. I have had many different kinds and will keep trying mew ones when I find them. I have not once tasted a fish that doesn't taste fishy. I get that some are stronger than others but they all taste like fish! It's like going to a cheese counter an picking up pieces of cheese and asking if they taste cheesy or going to an bottle shop and asking if beer tastes beery.

Catfish is the only "fresh" fish we can get around here, unless I catch it myself. Then it's Bass or Rainbow trout. I like fish, even if it tastes like fish. I could live on smoked salmon...
