Americans and fish
How many people have heard the following, or variation of the following, in reference to fish..."Does it taste fishy?"
Does it make you want to go over to the person, slap them in the face and say "IT'S FISH FOR F'CKS SAKE, WHAT DO YOU THINK IT WILL TASTE LIKE? BISCUITS?"

Re: Americans and fish
The expression was originally "smells fishy" meaning suspect or suspicious
This idiom alludes to the fact that fresh fish have no odor but stale or rotten ones do.
