Where I am (SW.PA) everyone seems to eat tons of fish. You name it, if it swims, they eat it.
My OH has a shellfish allergy and so he doesn't like any fish very much at all.
We never really had to mention the allergy much in the UK but here nearly every time we are invited out it is to a fish restaurant or if someone is cooking...it's fish.

I have notices in the local supermarket's "fish monger" they chop all the fish up so you never see the whole fish; I'm sure it's a ploy so you can't tell how fresh the fish is.

That sounds easy and tasty, I'll have to give that a try. When I went to Portugal years ago I ate nothing but fish and every meal was fab, my favourite was a tuna casserole (proper fresh tuna, not tuna noodle casserole). You don't have a recipe for that do you TT?

I think so, I remember it had quite a bit of onion and was oily. Not much help is it, it was a good few years ago

ETA: I was in the Algarve, not sure if there' regional differences.
