2016 Election
Re: 2016 Election
Not the point, and why the left and Clinton supporters don't seem to get the simple fact that the decline has happened during Republican and Democrat administrations - and people just wanted a change and only Trump or Sanders represented a change. Many Trump supporters I have talked to just as fed up with Republicans in Congress as they are with Democrats. The more establishment Republicans went against Trump, it made some more likely to vote for Trump.
My own impression is that the Trump voters were not necessarily convinced his stated plans would work, but were convinced Clinton was a continuation
of the status quo. C
Ironic that the Republican congress blocked a lot of Obama's initiatives, now will probably block many of Trump's.

As you point out..the Republican Congress blocked pretty much all of Obamas efforts and...you can believe they will not bow down to Trump. What the voters never understand is that the House holds the purse strings and any President is at the mercy of ultra conseratives in the House. A Democratic controlled House and Senate with a Dem in the Oval would have moved forward the very things those voters falsely hope to get from Trump. Pity for them.

Trump received fewer votes than both Clinton and Romney.
I realize that you are in love with this Forgotten America routine of yours, but those simple statistics don't support your argument.
Trump didn't overperform, Clinton underperformed.

There was an article I saw about her Get Out The Vote Campaign, suggested she succeeded in getting out many who had switched to Trump.
Does not matter who voted last time, what the current voter base does is what matters.

It seems quite plausible that many Republicans couldn't stomach voting for Trump and sat out the election in the way the Bushs did. And that the "lost" vote between Obama and Clinton switched to Trump. Ergo, the Republican vote stayed the same and the Democratic declined.

The fact that fewer people voted for Trump than for Romney should be a hint that Trump didn't do better than Romney.
Trump created a net loss in votes for the GOP, they just happened be allocated more favorably in the electoral college. Some better moves by the Democrats would have changed the outcome.

It's interesting that in a city like Detroit, a wasteland of ruined abandoned factories and lost dreams that blacks still attach themselves to the Democratic party. What did Obama do for those people in eight years? What did his admin do for the white workers who saw their jobs disappearing down south or across to Asia. The Dems need to start focusing on the concerns of the people who are traditionally loyal to them because if Trump actually does bring back the thousands of jobs he promised then the Dems will be losing voters in ever increasing numbers thereafter

Re: 2016 Election
Some of it could be due to Clinton, i.e. voters avoided her specifically for whatever reason.
Some of it could be due to it not being Obama, i.e. voters who liked him didn't transfer that loyalty to his successor.
Some of it could be a negative reaction to Obama, i.e. voters who liked him before stopped liking him and didn't remain loyal to the party.
Some of it could be due to voter ID/ suppression laws that made it harder to vote. It would not surprise me if this played at least some role in a state such as Wisconsin, where Trump did not win any more votes than Romney, yet Democratic votes in a stronghold such as Milwaukee took a dive.
In some cases in the Rust Belt, Trump did manage to flip some Obama voters.
In any case, I'm sure that glib JPG files won't tell us much.

If Clinton and Trump had won the same number of votes in that county as had their predecessors in 2012, she would have won the state.
In any case, Obama prevented the Michigan auto industry from imploding. How you missed that, I don't know.

The flood of Trump-fearing American liberals sneaking across the border into Canada has intensified in the past week. The Republican presidential campaign is prompting an exodus among left-leaning Americans who fear they’ll soon be required to hunt, pray, pay taxes, and live according to the Constitution.
Canadian border residents say it’s not uncommon to see dozens of sociology professors, liberal arts majors, global-warming activists, and “green” energy proponents crossing their fields at night...............
