Mitch McConnell who looks like he should be retired and at home playing pin the tail on the donkey with his grand kids abused his office and possibly Constitutional law by wilfully obstructing Obama's nomination to the Supreme Court Judge Merrick Garland. Judge Garland would be an excellent choice to fill the spot left by Judge Scalia.
I'm sure that when Hillary gets to the WH she'll waste no time in pursuing his nomination further. None of us would want to know what Trump would have in mind for the Supreme Court

There you go with that false equivalency again. Maybe think of it this way; imagine you were voting for the guy who was about to give you a root canal. On the left, you have a guy who's never taken any classes in dentistry, but thinks that because he too has been to the dentist, he can do it because he's smart, and can afford the tools. On the right, you have a person who's been fully schooled in all the aspects of dentistry, has 30+ hears of experience messing around with people's teeth, but has been known to do some shady deals on the billing side and may have prescribed a few extra pain killers to some patients.

Which one do you want doing your root canal? Are they equally unsuited to the job?

Had a long, arduous journey back to US from UK yesterday, gave me time to think without much distraction.

I realized that the overriding elephant in the room with Trump is his temperament. Forget what he said or did to women 10 years ago; forget about his taxes, his bankruptcies, his former positions on a multitude of issues. I think it is truly significant and overwhelmingly disqualifying that he cannot let anything 'go'. In all three debates, he has consistently taken the bait from Clinton and gone off the rails, and his reaction to the initial 'Miss Universe/Miss Piggy' situation demonstrates to us all we really need to know about him. How could we even consider giving him the nuclear codes, putting him in charge of the military, etc? I mean, seriously? This guy is surrounded by advisers doing everything they can to keep him out of trouble but he can't save himself.

It also occurred to me that, superficial as it may sound, my original take on Trump was quite accurate ... anyone who can wear his hair like that can't possibly be taken seriously. Think about it ... any reasonable human being with eyes, a mirror, and some trusted friends would realize what a complete joke that 'thing' on his head is. But he manages to convince himself it makes him look good, and he then surrounds himself with people who can't or won't convince him otherwise. As superficial as a 'hairdo' is, it does seem to be part of a pattern! I guess the story of the "Emporer's New Clothes' is appropriate here ... I haven't actually read it for decades ... quite cute ... The Emperor's New Clothes .

No, in order for the GOP to see the gravity of what they did by not even letting a moderate judge be heard for months, she should get someone much more leftwing. They'll be more than happy for Garland as the one after that.

Right. They'll hold a hearing on Nov 9 and confirm Garland.

I was speaking to a couple who will vote Trump, asked why and it was with no enthusiasm but the deciding factor was what Hillary would do to the Supreme Court.

Which is interesting because it isn't entirely clear that Trump knows what the supreme Court does.

May well be the case, but they knew Hillary does, which is the scary thing.

Of all the complete BS that people talk about this election, this is one possible piece of logic. If I were a die-hard Republican, I'd probably vote Trump for this one reason, regardless of how flawed he was as a candidate. Thankfully I'm not a die-hard Republican.

I wouldn't trust him to piss in a pot, personally, but then, as I said, I'm not a die-hard Republican. I think the die-hards would rather have anyone than "someone chosen by Democrats" because of issues such as gay rights, marriage, gun control, obamacare - all of which are potentially affected by SCOTUS.

True, but i'm trying to address the fact that these die hards somehow think they can control Trump or that Pence will do all the thinking for him. How many campaign managers have quit (Jim Murphy is the latest one)? How many times have we read that he prefers to do things his own way?

He may be a puppet of Putin's but he isn't a puppet of the GOP.

As I mentioned above, his recent debate behavior, and the behavior relating to Miss Universe (issuing a 'tweet-storm' at 3am), clearly demonstrates he can't be controlled even by his closest advisers, who obviously have his election as their primary goal. He simply won't listen to ANYONE. Ever. (you could argue the GOP is at odds with him, but his own team ...?)
