So now we have Trump's lawyer saying that his wife got a green card based on marriage. Although his campaign quickly denied this story. How odd.

"He told Univision he was authorized by the Trump Organization “to speak on the matters concerning Melania,” but said he couldn’t comment on how Melania Trump became a permanent U.S. resident.

“Ms. Trump received citizenship in 2006 and prior to that she had a green card based on marriage. Before that, she had a work visa and was in full compliance on her visas and never disrespected any of them. That has been made clear to me"

Maybe Obama should pardon her for immigration fraud...

You're missing the point about his taxes.

His sole platform for his campaign is that he is the most awesome businessman ever. After all he has no political experience.

How do we judge his business acumen? Has he outperformed the Dow? No. Has he made great deals? Well yes but he has left a trail of 3500 law suits from suppliers suing him to get paid properly because broke those deals. Well at least he has the ear of wall St with banks willing to lend to him? No he is blackballed by most US banks. Well he's a billionaire right? Must earn millions every time he breathes right? He wouldn't need to slap his name on cheap suits from China just to make a few dollars right?

I wonder if the presidential salary is actually a pay raise for Trump.

She's been married before...so what? Unless of course she did commit immigration fraud.

No I am not missing the point about his taxes, and most of your post proves my point.

I outlined why his tax returns in all probability wouldn't have any bearing on what he makes or his business acumen. What part wasn't clear ?

This was my point about his tax returns, it seems the people who bring it constantly are already so against Trump they are just looking for talking points, as the reason they give wont be answered by his tax returns.

As far as his business acumen we know he can build a business, whether one likes the way he did or not. It is not unreasonable to assume that he knows more about creating jobs, and creating business incentives for business than Clinton.

Instead of the distractions, I would like to see more discussion in the media of the overall economic policies of the candidates. As far as Trump yes he brags and seems self-centered, whether by nature or part his approach to "branding", is certainly not endearing ! If one discounts even 50% of what he says, certainly he has had success in business.

To be fair I am unsure given his length of time in business or the type of business he is in, whether 3500 lawsuits is excessive or not. ( It sounds like a lot, but why not be objective and fair, advice Trump should probably listen to more !)

I posted a response earlier in this thread addressing this issue. Much of the illegal farm work in CA is carried out on a seasonal basis, in remote areas (I presume you've driven down I5 and seen the vast farms in the middle of nowhere). Even if the pay was higher (per hour), you still aren't going to get Americans to relocate to an area devoid of schools, stores, and other amenities for work that only lasts a few months of the year.

Some form of 'temporary guest worker' system may work, but you'd have to allow for the fact that these people coming in are families with children.

Just what impact a significant increase in production cost of produce would have on the overall economy, I don't know. I do know we are desperately trying to get poor people to eat more fresh vegetables and less junk food/processed food (the obesity epidemic that is costing the country a fortune in medical and other costs), and cranking up the price of vegetables might make that initiative that much harder. Anecdotally, I do note that I can buy an order of French Fries from McD's cheaper than I can buy a basket of blackberries or raspberries.

I don't disagree that some Americans wouldn't want such work even if it paid higher but some would, and guest worker programs could fill the gaps, but the illegal immigration is in many sectors. I am not sure statistics but more illegals crossing border are men who send often bulk of their earnings back home. The current system distorts the pay rates , and leads to very unfair social conditions for many immigrants who if illegal face workplace difficulties and sad conditions as far as visiting their families.

I don't know if it is solely the price of vegetables and fruit that is the issue, patterns of behavior, stagnation of real wages play a part. I see people in the morning stopping at the gas station buying cans of energy drinks for consumption in one day, parents letting children drink soft drinks non stop, etc. Stagnation of real wages means more pressure on families. Maybe requiring home economics class in high school, eating more healthy diet doesn't necessarily mean a more expensive one though many people think so.

Yea fast food restaurants can be cheaper but I know in the Midwest recent trends are not that case. One can eat at a restaurant if one doesn't order too many drinks cheaper than a meal at McDonalds, yet the preference is McDonalds for many. Sometimes I wonder what they are putting in to create what seems to be an addiction.

I'd like to any Caucasian working out in the fields under a blazing hot sun picking fruit all day long. Black Americans wouldn't do the work either. Cotton fields still remain too strong in ethnic memory

One thing that can be said is at least they have work instead of living in abject poverty south of the border. Cesar Chavez did much to improve some of their working conditions but picking fruit is a bottom of the rung job for people who no education, no skills and cant speak English and that's how it will remain.

I posted this in another thread, but I have to post it here too, because it's probably even more relevant in this context.

Well California is a bit different than rest of country. Many rural areas if wages high enough people would do the work, though probably would not work as hard as Mexicans. Many local farms here pay the same but prefer Mexican workers. I find it to some degree hypocritical of such a liberal state putting up with the poor conditions of so many rural workers there.

Yes the Mexicans have work paying more than they have at home, and one has to admire someone who crosses the border to a country where they don't speak the language ( many actually only bene to elementary school), with limited financial resources, and find a way to make a living.

I have a lot of faith in the Mexican immigrant desire to better themselves. I know several successful in life Americans whose grandparents came here as farmworkers
Whether you believe America is still the land of opportunity or not Mexicans down the generations have proved that it can be

Trump claims he saw hundreds of Muslims dancing in the streets after 9/11 happened but it wasn't true. Lately he saw a plane taking off for Iran loaded with a few million dollars which were to be used as exchange for hostages and that's not true either.

Can this man who obviously hallucinates and makes up stories that turn out to be fiction be trusted with his finger on the nuclear button ?

Can a woman who lies through her teeth be trusted to lead the country?

No doubt most Mexicans crossing the border are hard workers and determined to build a better life, and yes it was the land of opportunity - whether it will continue to be as it was before another question.
