2016 Election

Re: 2016 Election
I wonder if we have any of these "online trolls" on this thread. Statistically, almost certain, I would think. All those supposed Trump-haters, who would rather have a war criminal as their President...

Real Clear Politics is a more balanced aggregator and easier to read, but it generally leans right (although it tends to avoid the nuttiest of the nutty.)

If such paid trolls did exist, one would find them on Reddit, not on an expat forum where people are talking about the election the same way they have done every four years.
I notice Hillary Clinton (who, as a rapant corporatist 1%-er, I have my own issues with but I don't hate her) gets hauled out as a war criminal but we elected the war criminal Bush for a second term in 2004 and nobody batted an eye.

Re: 2016 Election
Especially the labor participation rate decline which the source of the National Review's figures and many other economists have pointed out is largely (but clearly not totally) structural and which commenced well before Obama took office (more baby boomers retiring, more people getting post-grad education, a slight decline in working women). "Odd" that the National Review was silent on the structural factors and so full of glee on pinning it all on Obama.

That leaves us with this determined effort to abuse the labor force participation data. This appeals to right-wing know-nothings who can't be bothered to understand what it actually means; expecting them to do five minutes of research is asking too much.

They do exist, I've seen them all over the Graun comment sections, and it's painfully obvious as they just post the same trite nonsense over and over again. Obviously there are some genuine Hillary fans as well and you can see they actually put some thought into their comments.

Does anybody else groan when they hear that ridiculous '95 million unemployed' figure trotted out over and over?

Re: 2016 Election
I haven't actually seen a Hillary supporter on Reddit but I avoid r/politics because I have a bit of election fatigue anyway. The Trump subreddit is right on the line between trollery and cancer, and the Sanders one is just sad. Endless 'give us money and make phonecalls or we'll all die' posts. It makes supporting Bernie feel like supporting Liverpool. I believe in my choice but I don't always want to stand next to the other people who chose it.

Re: 2016 Election
I think Bernie has a lot of new voter support, who haven't been through enough election cycles to become fully jaded and disillusioned with it yet, and they aren't ready to accept the fact that Hillary is all but the presumptive nominee now.

Thanks. I like the way that Real Clear Politics is presented, very useful.

True enough, Sultan; but I don't think that's cause for smugness.
