I once turned out in a friendly match which had players who would become, the Liverpool center forward, the Southampton manager, and my very old mate, who went on to manage 13 clubs including Leeds United. It's just a pity that my football ability didn't match my love for the game, but then again another very old mate, who also figured in the friendly match, played top division football and ended up driving a Royal Mail van for a living.
I'm amazed these days when a striker on a hundred zillion dingerbars a year is described as a genius, just because he can hit a ball on the volley. Moore, Charlton and Banks would walk into any current Premiership club, not forgetting the hapless England team, George Best would make Bale's transfer fee look like a pittance, and I don't possess the ability to describe Pele's attributes. But I'm well into my 60's and recall my grandfather talking in very similar terms about the players that he saw when he was in his 20's, but having said that I am 100% sticking to my comments, sorry grandad.

Not much changed there in 60 years since Franco's govt used to foot the bill to buy Real Madrid their early European trophies.

Another Messi affair.
Great player but not exactly covering himself with glory off the pitch what with his tax fiddle and now this.

Dreaming of a At.Mad and Liverpool league winners season.

I wouldn't have expected them to be better than third place but they're a force to be reckoned with in all competitions at present.
Premier is still looking interesting as well.

Just watching the Balon d'or and Pele has received a award which wrights some wrongs with Fifa as he never played in Europe, it was quite emotional and he had some tears.

I see the great Eusebio passed away last week, possibly second only to Pele in his day.
A wonderful footballer, a gentleman and a scholar, sadly not many of his kind around these days.

Well we did see him in Europe in World cup competitions but why he never played at club level I haven't a clue.

Bobby Charlton was exceptional in all respects and I never cease to be amazed how even now when I discuss football with guys from various countries worldwide, his is the first and often only English name mentioned amongst the true all time greats.

Bestie was no doubt talented but I doubt if I'd put him in the gentleman and scholar category.

Bit of a shock, only 4/5 years back he led Spain to win the Euro Champs which bought on there run of domination.

Never mind these pouncy, overpaid posers, the big boys start today, the Six Nations Rugby starts today! My Spanish teacher went to Cardiff last year to watch her first international, she was blown away with the atmosphere etc. She couldn't get over how supporters from both sides applauded the play of both teams, and the friendly banter between rival supporters.
