The only reason that Spain is Argentina's new best friend is because they happen to be president of the UN Security Council for the next 6 months and therefore have some, albeit fleeting, influence right now.
UNSC Prezzy is a post that rotates around the members, it's got nothing to do with merit or power - just muggin's turn.

I agree that the consent of the Gibraltese is paramount but should ii finally come down to determining the views of the native population the following should apply.
Those who have taken up residence for tax dodging, Brits , Spanish or any other nationality or those who have moved there lets say in the last 25 years should be excluded.
I wonder how many that would leave.
The Swiss have the right idea, you can live there if you have enough money but you do not have the automatic rights of Swiss born nationals.

I would love to see those who come over legally as well as illegally being restricted in their rights until they are "time served".
perhaps this would stop those who preach death and damnation to the English and Christians, and anyone they choose from day to day, from bringing over their extended family and taking council houses and benefits to help fund their activities.

Well I'm glad I am Gibraltarian because I seem to detect an undercurrent of dislike towards the Gibraltese

Well if things get really bad as in the Berlin Airlift, I'm sure the RAF would be happy to fly some in.
Best not drop it by parachute though or you'll have those darned Spanish fishermen sailing right up to the beaches trying to snaffle it.

Mind you in those days it was a private military beach and the locals were not allowed.
We can't have locals enjoying a beach paid for by UK taxpayers can we now.

Well if it comes to that then the aircrews will be staying at RAF Northfront, commonly known as Western Beach were they will be relaxing on the sand we stole from Spain like they have been doing since the runway was built all those years ago.

The Gibraltar border is specified by the 1713 Treaty of Utrecht.
The current Gibraltar frontier is in the area designated as a neutral area in 1713 Treaty of Utrecht, and has never been ceded to Britain.

What amazes me the most is how they wish to squabble on Spains behalf about a few thousand sq mtrs of land at the most and the same amount of sea whilst in possession and having use of a zillion times times that amount in both cases.
Those miniscule disputed areas are of no importance at all to Spain in the bigger picture of things in comparison to Gib and I can only put such petty childlike behaviour down to no more than sheer bloody mindedness.

Strange, much of the anti-Brit opinion on here is that the Treaty should be thrown in the bin and forgotten about, now all of a sudden part of it serves a useful purpose.

Now this is all pretty much moot since some of that isthmus now houses part of La Linea, taken from the "neutral territory" by Franco in the 60's.
None of which means a nats toss of course because, as we all know, in the world today, Might is always Right.
