Default Time to pack?

Having lost around seven percent of my UK income in the past week because of the exchange rate, I was looking round for answers. The Eurozone is in trouble with Ireland, Spain has lost another notch in its credit rating, and the IMF has praised the UK. So why has the Euro fallen from 1.22 to 1.15?

I found the answer in an unlikely place, the good old London Evening Standard, now a free paper owned by a Russian.

My country owes £1 trillion, the largest amount it has ever owed. No wonder the pound is falling. I’m off to pack.

I’m pleased for you, I have a tiny Spanish income as well, but it’s way below subsistence level.

I would just like to say that if I do have to return, and it doesn’t worry me too much, I will be returning to a part of London which used to be considered multi-cultural, which I like.

But it’s no longer the case, it’s Muslim, I’ve got nothing against Muslims, nothing at all, but I don’t fit into their way of living.

So I’m going to have to sell up and move to another part of the UK. But I don’t want to do any of that, I want to stay in Spain, I love the place, But if my income decreases by seven percent in a bad week, another seven weeks will knock me out of the game.

If you are already tightening your belt to the limit, there is very little slack to pull in further.

I have no constructive advice to give, and it has been a major fall from the heady days of what the pound was worth a few years ago.
I never thought that the UK would ever end up in such a mess, and the cuts that are on the cards need to be done straight away, because the interest will cripple the country even more.

Afraid the outlook in the near future does not look good. I'd ride it out here in Spain by cutting back a little, every euro saved helps.

The other thread about the UK & perceived costs was interesting till it went off topic.

All the best

I must admit I was gobsmacked by the article. When I moved over the pound was strong against the Peseta, and remained strong against the Euro. Comparing prices it seemed logical and still does, but a seven percent drop in a week does make you think. Of bad things.

I’m thinking of walking my Doberman down High Street North in Manor Park. An Uzi might be handy.

OMG Manor Park! I'd wait for GBP E parity before I ventured into those parts!

Only joking, never been but I've seen the neighbouring areas & I'd prefer to be skint in Spain.

One of the most misued phrases in the English language, being skint in Spain is no joke.

In the past it made thousands of Spanish up sticks, move to different counrty, away from all the family, and all they knew, because they could not keep body and soul together.

It must be very hard for someone who lives in Spain because they can afford to "have a more relaxed lifestyle" and have the "go for it you only live once" eithc, to understand the feelings of utter desperation a parent has when they really are "skint in Spain.

I should know, both me and my wife are descended from such people.

You’ve made me laugh, thank you. It is one shit place, unbelievably bad, but when I bought my flat there 30 years it was rough but nothing like it is now.

It’s on top of the Olympics, and that’s why I’m hanging on. Bur, if the pound collapses, I might have to go back there.

Heaven forbid..

It doesn’t only apply to Spanish people, half of Europe moved around after the bad times.

It sounds like you had a soft landing, a lot of others didn’t. I didn’t.

Be careful with that link folks. I got an ad featuring a clip of some babe promoting something. If my partner had seen it I'm sure she would have thought I was downloading porno!

I never once thought I would say it but... maybe its time to bring the boys and girls back home... it costs £34 billion a year to have them over there and I am getting pretty sick of having to post the deaths of Britain's Sons and Daughters who are dying to secure oil for America. £34 billion a year saved will help with the deficit for sure.

Tell me, who do we blame for this?

I dont want to buy, let alone eat meat killed in such a barbaric way.

Apart from that it tastes different.

Forcing a nation to eat Halal meat has to be wrong?
