Most of the Scottish are in the UK anyway, in the country they love so much

Im no expert on the economics of Scotland, but Ive always been slightly bemused about how they can generate enough income to exist as a nation on their own anyway. Having witnessed it on the recent LEJOG, most of the North of Scotland seems completely devoid of anything (beautiful). I think the total population is only about 5.2 million, but they still have to generate enough to keep their total infrastructure going.
Before they joined the union with England just over 300 years ago they didn't have a penny to scratch their backsides and absolutely no industry at all.
Joining England immediately gave them access to all English markets and Colonies Worldwide and everything they have today came as a result of that access being granted.

Making allowances for Spouses and children in England now they could make up close on 40% of the population of Scotland.

Well, yes I agree ... but what there is still needs to be serviced, especially with the terrible weather conditions. With a population of 5.2 million, and God knows how many of those are tax payers, they will be going some.

LONG-TERM unemployment is rising faster in Scotland than anywhere else in the UK, according to trade union analysis out today.
The report – Christmas On The Dole – shows the number of Scots claiming unemployment benefits for at least a year has soared by 28 per cent over the past 12 months.

As you say, loads are living outside of Scotland, plus the unemployed, not sure where all the money is coming from. We pumped over £40 billion into RBS alone, that would have been down the swanee without that money and all the jobs with it. The military is a big employer north of the border, the RAF stations, Faslane etc, that would leave a huge void if they moved out.
If it happens I hope they build a toll booth at Gretna and charge the porridge wogs a tenner a head to visit England

Come on there must be one true Scotsman out there willing to put these Sassenach's on here in their place.
Where's Sean Connery when you need him.
Oh yeah,
The Bahamas.
A wee island just off the west coast of Scotland.

It's Black Friday today by the way, somethings bound to happen.
Oh yes, there it is now, the Euro is tumbling, France is to be downgraded with a few others as yet unnamed to follow.
I'll be surprised if Italy and Spain aren't on the black list.

With a bit luck Israel will do the dirty deed before it's to late for them and we can take a back seat for once,
.... but there again that's just not in our nature is it,...maybe we'll have to join Uncle Sam again and catch a little piece of the action ?
