Actually the marine border between England and Scotland was moved North from Berwick all the way up to Carnoustie quite a few year back I believe.
Quite a crafty move for once by the Westminster govt.who must have seen this coming.

Might as well chuck in the Mackems and Geordies as well, though how the rest of the country would survive without the tax income from their booze revenue I haven't a clue.

That reminds me of an old guy I overheard in a park in Oviedo

"The problem with this country is the lazy Andalucians and the Murcians, all them down South. Then you've got the Catalans, tight b*stards and think they're so much better than the rest. And the Basques, always causing trouble, not to mention the posh gits from Madrid"

By the time he'd finished I think he'd rubbished everyone in Spain except for himself and his mate

Well he did not rubbish the Gallegos either.......

I heard 2 men in the uk talking, neither of them prosperous looking or particularly well dressed.

One said he had a "trust fund"

The other called him a bull sh*tter, and said he did not believe that he had a trust fund.

The first guy told the second one he was deaf, and that he said "I have a truss fund"

"I will be breaking my balls untill 67, and I will need a truss by pension age."

Well yes, another senior moment. Be a bit stupid trying to build an island airport in Wiltshire!
But I'm more convinced that HS2 will mean there is no need to pump 60-100 billion into building Boris Island, as airport capacity will now be able to increase, whether at Heathrow itself or at a satellite operation near Birmingham. I think Boris Johnson himself realises it - he's done a u-turn this week and now gives his support to HS2.

THE Mayor of London Boris Johnson has welcomed the Government's HS2 announcement- an apparent U-turn on his previous opposition to the project.

A spokesperson for the Mayor of London said today: "The Mayor has always believed there was a case for investing in a high speed rail network and he is pleased that the Government has listened to the points he has made regarding its impact on the quality of life for thousands of residents in the capital.

The Scottish Oil issue always pisses me off, by the Scottish Executives OWN figures Scotland takes in just under £10 billion less in revenue than it spends, the oil industry at best is worth just over a billion, BY THEIR OWN ADMISSION the oil revenues will only make up a small shortfall, thats why they are not making a massive issue over it. I can't wait for the whinging dicks to go it solo, Scotland have always thought they could go it alone and its always been laughed at, even their most fervent supporters are only supporting it to have a sideways swipe at England by proxy!

Wonder how they will pay back ENGLANDS money that sits in RBS............

Boris knows that most of his supporters are a bit on the flaky side and that with an existing airport at Southend being revamped that Boris Island would probably not be finished in his lifetime

was it just economics and change in military focus that had the USN move out of Scotland ?

Agree, if they want to stay, fair enough, but if they're going, go! And let's make sure it's a 100% total split, defence, financial, health, everything. If they're confident they can survive better on their own, and it's what the Scots want, why the hesitation from that smary Salmond? They can have have their "independence" (and the euro), and be a very small fish in the big EU pool. I don't know of any English that would mourn their leaving, it'll a great weight off our shoulders.

From what I can gather this smarmy Salmond is hoping to go down in Scottish history like Robert the Bruce, by achieving independance in 2014, the anniversary of the Battle of Bannockburn, about the only thing the jocks ever won.

The only reason he wants to delay it is because he's on some sort of personal, weird egotrip.

It would be a very pleasant thought that he might end up meeting the same fate as his supposed counterpart.

agree, Total Split with emphasis on the TOTAL
and many English will be there to drive the buses taking them home.
will also mean that Corby will be a ghost town, that could be given to the Muslims, it does nothing and goes nowhere.

ISTR Bonny Prince Charlie was supported by the French, do they want to support today's Scotland ? Unlikely, they have enough problems of their own.

Scotland cannot get away with fudged figures to join the Euro as did Greece, the Germans haven't got Scotland on their post-it of mind shattering events for the Euro-zone.

Im no expert on the economics of Scotland, but Ive always been slightly bemused about how they can generate enough income to exist as a nation on their own anyway. Having witnessed it on the recent LEJOG, most of the North of Scotland seems completely devoid of anything (beautiful). I think the total population is only about 5.2 million, but they still have to generate enough to keep their total infrastructure going.

Having driven through the highlands in the middle of the night on a single lane carriageway on the only road going in that direction... I dont think they have that much infrastructure to support

However, I love Scotland and have had some of the best nights out ever in Edinburgh. If Scotland want to be independent then good for them. I dont think it will happen though
