SPORTING ESPANA!

What a sporting month Spain's had! First Nadal winning Wimbledon, then the World Cup, now this.
I'm fairly sure I won't see England (or Scotland) win the World Cup before I die. Less sure about a British winner of the Tour de France (although unlikely, it is possible). I suppose my main hopes in these 3 sports lies with the Scotsman Andy Murray - maybe he'll sneak in as Nadal and Federrer decline, and before the next world leader comes along. But to win in all 3 areas - what a great achievement!

And still the basketball to come (though if I wasn't supposed to mention Contador until he'd actually won, I suppose I shouldn't mention that yet either).

I just hope no-one is going to mention the F1 cheat Fernando Alonso in this dago sportfest.

After all he has done to bring the sport into disrepute, he should be banned for life.
He's an absolute disgrace to F1,with all that trouble he caused at Mclaren, then that crash being staged to let the big baby win his only race of the season, now this fiasco.
He obviously spit his dummy out a few laps earlier, because he couldn't overtake Massa,so it had to be set up for him.
Being Ferrari and Alonso, they are let off with a paltry meaningless fine.
Had it been any other team and driver, no doubt they would have been demoted quite a few places at the very least.

Motor-sports isn't sport anyway. The way how well you can perform is up to the engine you've got, very little do with skill.

That staged accident involving Alonso and Renault was undoubtedly the most serious incident in F1 history, yet they were allowed to get away with it because of possible financial loss to F1, had they done the right thing and banned all concerned for life.
The whole set up and those running it, stinks to high heaven and has done so for many years.

No doubt the best cars have a big advantage, but most of these are now fairly closely matched and only a handful of top drivers are capable of bringing home the bacon.

Agree entirely, he is a thoroughly objectionable, whinging turd! The fine is as you say, a joke, but I think that is the most the stewards can give, but the case has also been referred to the World Motor Sport Council (WMSC). If they want to retain any credibility, they'll come down like a ton of bricks, but I'm not holding my breath. In the Spanish forums, there are still those that think Lloronso walks on water, but it was refreshing to read the huge numbers that were equally disgusted by the whole sordid episode. I felt for Massa, to have the deserved victory stolen from him, you could see he wanted nothing to do with Alonso after the race.
Massa strikes me as being a thoroughly decent fellow who deserves better. The only thing wrong with Hamilton's world championship victory two years ago was that Massa had to come second. At least then he was beaten fair and square.
It'll be very interesting to see how Ferrari are dealt with over this...
Of course this kind of intra team controversy - this week Ferrari, Alonso and Massa - last time out Red Bull, Vettel and Webber - is all good for our chaps.

They came quite close a few races ago, Hamilton and Button fighting it out, jockeying for the lead, same with Vettel and Webber, in fact all the teams fighting amongst each other, and then we see Massa waving Alonso through. Obviously Alonso is no. 1 driver at Ferrari, I wonder if Massa knew that when he renewed his contract!

I think they see Vettel as the new F1 superstar, and he may well be, but I'd like to see the tenacious Webber finish in front of him this season at least.

And by the way, I believe that Alonso is one of the best pilots in F1 that I have seen. He has been World Champion with two cars theoretically inferior to Ferrari or McLaren, he was who retired to Schumacher (although now it has returned), Hamilton has learned much of him, among other things...
And he had the disgrace of working for McLaren...Of course, the McLaren of Ron Dennis, whose stupidity of making impossible the life to Alonso so that Hamilton won it supposed the defeat of McLaren
When Alonso was not in the team, he confirmed what we already knew

One thing I wonder about is how 'cheating' is dealt with where bets are concerned.
If one had placed a bet (at probably seriously good odds) for Massa to win the race, and then the team are fined for cheating and have already said they are not appealing against their fine, how is the bet dealt with? Do you at least get your money back?
