Pots and kettles come to mind, in view of the damage the last shower did, virtually fiddling everything away while Spain was burning.

The present lot are stuck between a rock and a hard place with the roof rapidly coming down on them and virtually zilch options that could make any serious difference.

If they withdrew 31.44 billion from the banks in April, how much is still in their mattresses? Makes you wonder how they sleep at nights. Vertigo must be a BIG problem. Still will make a good roosting site for the chickens when they finally come home.

It's not the general public who are withdrawing funds, it's international investors.

In Greece it may be different but most Spaniards have never trusted the banks and are far more likely to keep it under the mattress in the first place.

Just read in El Pais that deposits by Spanish residents actually increased by eight billion euros to 1.16 trillion.

It's the non residents and investment companies that are running for cover.

Hard to believe that figure unless it includes funds moved into the main banking system from the small cajas that no longer exist.

de Guindos has been giving a public speech. Says that the future of the Euro will be decided in the next couple of weeks in Spain and in Italy.

The news media, especially the British ones which we mostly read, thrive on bad news, which people want to read. They've exhausted Greece and their lazy people who don't pay their taxes, and have now smelled blood in Spain.

They resent the million Brits living in the sun and hate the Euro and the Germans, who appear to be running the show (which they probably are).

But Spain is in a mess, without a doubt, for many reasons, so we need to read some of the 24/7 bad news because it directly affects all of us.

There's no point in hiding your head in the sand, because when you lift it out you might find the cash points closed and the British Navy parked off-shore to take you home.

Now if you want to. There's bound to be a Santander branch near where you live, they're everywhere.

It might be worthwhile to do it now. They say that Santander UK is separate to Santander SL, I think if you believe that you might as well believe in fairies.

I can't see that the UK Media has given up reporting on Greece because it has smelled blood in Spain. Most nights there is some quite in depth report re Greece on Newsnight which seems to be obsessed with it. Couple of points though Greece has been in and out of the news for so long now because let's face either the EU doesn't know how or can't resolve the problem. Spain if the wheel does at it looks more and more like it come off is a much bigger issue and one that no one knows if the EU is capable of dealing with hence the interest. Also whilst I accept your comments re British press disliking the fact that so many expats are making a life in Spain especially from what I see the Daily Mail, surely if the press didn't report then that would be wrong as well. Again I do agree that they seem to do it with some glee.

Lots of shops accepting them as well as the banks.
They never really went out of fashion.
My Spanish neighbours only ever discuss prices in pesetas.

Gibralter seems a good place to start transferring funds.

It`s something similar to football managers - this is my analogy. No wait, hear me out...In their after game press conference the manger is asked, " how safe are you in your job ", manager replies," Everything is just fine, we are on target ".

Next day the manager`s history. That`s probably what will happen to the euro. The politicians saying - the issue is being solved - or words to that context and then boom , next day the media saying Spain joins Greece in limbo land - no more euros for them.

I can see it coming, people if I were a betting man ,I would transfer most of my money to pounds or dollars. Yes, Germany looks safe on the outside but who can trust a politician - you can`t.

My heart is in symbiosis with my brain - I hope this does not happen but it looks that way.

I've already done it.

Counted my €s tonight I have a €20 note and 2 €5s, I think the wife has a €20 in her purse plus a little shrapnel.
