Naff, cringeworthy, rubbish, stupid. Knew as soon as I saw the bloody maypole! All those hospital beds
The only thing missing was a benefit office and a one-legged lesbian. Similar to what Labour put on for the millenium. Community groups R UZ
Don't blame the newspapers, I thought they have been pretty generous seeing as whats around on the web, Twitter etc. SKY have been reading out comments, must have had a hard time censoring them according to the web.
As for Macca
Someone ought to have a word in his ear. I don't have words to describe how crap he is, he looks brain dead too. Then the song...so bloody boring it seems as if it will never end.
Liked the special effects and the cauldron lighting.

I for one did not really enjoy the opening ceremony which I watched with about 20 customers, too long and largely boring an oh so bloody typically multi sodin cultural and politically correct. A pile of shite in my opinion and who the frigging hell were the nobodys that lit the flame, there were so many good options which the organisers ignored and to top it all we have a 70 odd year old man singinging a fifty odd year old song. Will someone please shoot that dick McCartney

WHY, do you see that fact that genuine young athletes lit the flame in such a negative manner. Do you not see the reason behind it? Yes, they could have had a celeb light it, Roger Bannister, whoever, but surely this was more fitting. And the flame mechanism itself was amazing

I'm genuinely interested.

If you cant see the positivity in actually having something to be proud and happy about then fine. Me? I try and steer clear of people nowadays who spout constant depressing negativity rather than maybe just try to see the positives in some things in these current times .

It's purely a matter of taste, you enjoyed it along with many other nostalgic ex pats, I thought what I saw of it was naff. Millions enjoyed it, millions enjoy Corrie and Eastenders, that doesn't mean it's good. Personally I hope the Games go well, I'm sure they will, we normally put on a good show, however along with many others I thought the opening ceremony was grim, so switched it off. I can't get very excited by any of it, but it's great to see all the families that clearly are excited, they're all loving it.

FWIW I thought the whole thing was brilliant. I expected not to like it and might have switched off right at the start except that right from the start it wasn't as I expected. It was weird and irreverent enough to counter the tacky sentimental side and the soundtrack was superb.

Well, if anything I'm usually accused of claiming everything British is great, so it amuses me to be accused of "constant depressing negativity"!

As to multicultural part etc I would just like to add that I agree with previous posters that we a muticiltural society and better for it but must we always show it the same way.

I understand that the future athlete will/may inspire future generations of Olympians. I didn't want a celeb to light the cauldron, I wanted a great Olympian who has already inspired millions of people around the world both inside and ouside the sporting arena.

Well, I guess we must show it this way, because thats the way it is .... why show it any differently

That would be Aidan Burley MP who got fired by Cameron as a PPS, because he went on a nazi themed stag party and toasted the third reich? That one?

Two things are very likely now as regards Dannie Boyle. i ) He'll get excellent service if he ever needs to use the NHS ii ) he won't be invited to organise the service when Maggie (or Brenda) pop their clogs.
btw it seems as though the DM has decided to be disgusted by the pro-nhs ceremony

Brits are known to be able to put on a great show, they didn't let us down.
I wish they would have had a person who does good in the communities light the flame, they had 7 years to look around the country for someone who would fit the bill.
They always want to give these kind of jobs to over paid celebrities, it's a shame that even (some of) the ticket prices show that it's not for the average Brit to attend,.... shame, but otherwise good.

But it was the absurdly unrealistic scene – and indeed one that would spring from the kind of nonsensical targets and equality quotas we see in the NHS - showing a mixed-race middle-class family in a detached new-build suburban home, which was most symptomatic of the politically correct agenda in modern Britain.
This was supposed to be a representation of modern life in England but it is likely to be a challenge for the organisers to find an educated white middle-aged mother and black father living together with a happy family in such a set-up.
Almost, if not every shot, in the next sequence included an ethnic minority performer. The BBC presenter Hazel Irvine gushed about the importance of grime music (a form of awful electronic music popular among black youths) to east London.
This multicultural equality agenda was so staged it was painful to watch.
And Conservative MP Aidan Burley was right to point out on Twitter that it was a load of 'leftie multicultural c**p'. Yet predictably he has been castigated by Twitter's Guadianista brigade.
