Goodbye Sky TV

Well I can get 2F UK beam on my 80cm dish yet that map says I need a 2m+ for the signals - so dont take that map as anything but "experimental" as it says at the top. I think it was ceated before the satellite was tested and positioned - so not really accurate.
There have been NO official maps from SES AStra about the UK beams reach into Spain as the official maps only show the projected signals strengths up to about mid france.
Key word - projected.
Actual signals and footprints usually differ from those published - so nothing can realy be gained by predicting the receptrion of a satellite that is still in its hanger, 6 months away from launch, that still has to be launched, positioned at a test location, tested, repositioned, and then starts to transmit.
In fact most "official" maps are generally wrong for "fringe" recption areas, and they only really need to be accurate for their intended market. The offical maps for 2D were wrong / inaccurate - as in theory yu needed a 3m+ dish for 2Ds Uk beam in the CDS - but you got lucky and your 1.25m worked fine. Also, there is no reason for SES Astra to show UK beam reception in "non market" areas.
This is a map for the 2F UK Beam using actual reception reports:
https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid...9153,39.506836
where you can see that the Barca area is in a black spot, but between Valencia and Alicante there is a signal hot spot - not in any official or predicted or experimental maps!
See the map linked abovebased on reception reports for 2Fs UK beam.
I dont know how wise it is to compare reception in Spain of the 2E uk beam with the 2Fs Uk beam...no-one will actually know until it is operational.
Even a minute dent in the reflector can cause a huge move in the footprint.
And perhaps they can use the data from the 2F reception reports to fine tune 2E - its not scheduled to be launched until June so plenty of "tinkering time" available based on what they have learnt from 2F.
They have used 4m dishes in Greece and Cyprus to get the old 2D signals....so they do exisit and are available if people want to get their UK TV.
See http://skycyprus.com/index.php?pr=SK...sh_Photos&=SID for pixs of what they have had to use - that are now almost useless with the new satelites!

We have a 1.6m dish and still get 5's perfectly most of the day between about 12:00 and 20:00. After that it starts to lose signal.
We had one of the local major sky sat services tell us that the solution is simple but expensive. He says a new Lnb and diseq switch will solve it forever.
However he wants €900, which to me is ridiculous and suggests they are just seeing "quick cash".
Guy, does that sound legitimate to you?

Unfortunately for us in Huelva province in the deep SW Spain it's looks like it might be 3m or bigger and that is next to impossible for most of us.

keep your money in your pocket until at least August to see what happens as further migration to other new sats happens. See what the residual channels are and I am sure that the Guy will come back with the answer is a bigger dish before anything else. For €900 you could get a pretty big dish round here.

John & Kath - Yes, €900 is the "wealthy foreigners who have more money than they know what to do with" price. Unfortunately, I don't fit in that category, and I've been around here much too long to be that gullible.

I don't know if you know the old saying "There is no bad weather, just bad choices of clothing". Anyway, a big dish just needs a big, sturdy mount. Ours is mounted like a battleship engine. It doesn't ever move, even in 100km winds.

Also 2x the size 4x the area for the wind - add the structural stuff needed and it'll be like Jodrell bank!!
Shame ....

Last month we had a blow here which blew a row of tiles of the roof and lifted the pergola roof which must weigh several tons. The forecast at Faro Airport was 100kph but I suspect we had a bit more than that locally.
We would need even more room to give it that kind of protection and I'm not sure it would fit on the terrace.

I don't want Filmon for my set up here I have two internet capable TV's the main one is cable connected and the second is WiFi what I want to do is use both these TV's iplayer, ITV player, catch up, SKY player etc also to enable my iPad with apple TV for the same purposes so if I download the the DNS and pay $4.99 month I should be able to do this.

You should have no problems.
The only one I cannot get to work is Catchup TV which doesn't seem to work with a VPN.
You should try the Filmon app on the iPad - the quality is surprisingly good - much better than the free Internet version.
Incidentally, have you tried downloading a film to your Apple TV. I just downloaded Skyfall as a rental for £4.50 and the quality is full HD.

not too sure how a diseq swicth will help soilve the problem forever.... they are used to switch between LNB on different satellites.
Anyone who says they have a satellite soilution is only speculating - how do they konw what sized dish you need for satellites that have not even been launched yet???
Atsra could even be "tweaking" 2e based on what they have read about 2Fs reception!
As mentioned previously, best wait until 2E abnd the BBC ITV have moved to their new satellite before forking out on anything.
But if you desperately want to watch channel five them the cheapest option is filmon.
