Re: Gibraltar

Oh yes, they aren't Gib are they
I remember being off Aden (don't ask will have to kill you)
and the ship I was on was there so long that the guys on sonar could report if the ship was off course as they followed the signature of beer cans lying on the bottom

Gibraltar EC protest prompts challenge from passing Spaniard
LONE VOICE: A security official outside the European Commission headquarters escorts away a Spanish man who challenged the Gibraltar lobby.
A cold but good spirited group of concerned citizens held a peaceful protest on the roundabout by the European Commission in Brussels yesterday morning.
But not everyone welcomed the protest.
A middle-aged Spanish man approached the group and started to chant “viva España”.
Within moments, a plainclothes officer of the Brussels police force moved in, placed his hands on the Spanish man’s arms and escorted him away.
Speaking in French, the officer told the man to walk on and not come back.
The group of concerned citizens gave the officer a cheer of appreciation and some thanked him personally.

Re: Gibraltar
so "if only only 20% comes from Gib" why aren't you shouting about Algeciras and its 80%
sorry - forgot for a moment you had an ulterior motive, so its a good job muslims aren't involved
but something that has to be put into the pot is that this problem relates to the cleaning of hulls of growth that will slow the ship thru the water.
the so called ethical way of doing this is to strip the hull back to bare metal in a dry dock, from the floor of which the growth and the paint previously put on the hull to stop/hinder the growth can be collected up and removed "ethically". It is the paint residue that is causing the pollution.
now if a ship owner wants to save some money he has the bottom scraped to remove the growth (as well as any inhibiting paint). This is done by divers, which although not cheap, reduces the cost of renting a dry dock, and the ship turns round (generally) quicker.
now, if a customer came to you and said he wanted the cheapest way (divers) even though you offered the dry dock (dearest) option are you going to turn the contract down or just get on with it
its a no win situation, especially as although Gib is more ethical than Algeciras if it comes down to losing a contract to the guy over the other side of the bay you do what the customer asks.
but you knew all that, you understand all about the options, the commercial side of the business, and that someone has to win.
but instead you have to keep blaming "Gib" without opening your mouth about the other 80% which comes from Spain.
I am seriously considering asking a Moderator to investigate your true antecedents as you appear to be a mouthpiece for the Spanish Ministry for Disinformation

Until you do why should any of your comments be taken seriously.
Your atitiude to the problem could be compared to living next door to a neighbour who throws their rubbish in the street.
Instead of doing all you can to clean up the area you throw yours out ( notas much ). Your excuse " well he is doing it so it is Ok for me to do it as well ".
Thats really grown up thinking.
If as Fred keeps saying Gib is British , then it should behave as British industry does and apply the same rules and regulations to protecting the environment.

and I think you will find that Gib "industry" - it is only a small place so doesn't have much, actually applies the same rules and regs for protecting the environment.
Unless of course You can prove otherwise - which may prove difficult as you have never been there, only commenting, ranting and raving from an armchair in Portugal.
And you are still ignoring the Algeciras problem

Re: Gibraltar
Domino you are sounding more and more like the guy who says its OK for me to break the law because others are doing it.
I know all about the problem in Spain but Gib is not Spanish, the Gib propoganda department keeps on about the problems caused by Spain and will not accept that Gib is behaving in exactly the same way even if at a lower level.
If Gib wants to win the propoganda battle then it has to clean up its act !!

Re: Gibraltar
Look at the same site and an article on the 25th Jan.
These activities in Gib are no different from the guy who S**** in the street because the guy next door is doing it .
The excuse that he s**** more times a day than I do is stupid beyond belief.
If you really beleive in protecting the environment you would want anything that is harmfull stopped in both places.

I am sure that the dead fish in the sea are delighted with your anal obsession with my ability to type or not as the case may be.
I was told many years ago that when anyone you are debating with resorts to the " you are repeating yourself " arguement that is because they do not have a substantive reply.

Re: Gibraltar
please stop repeating yourself, and next time you go to the Reply to Thread page have a look at the little icons on the top line where there is a little tick with ABC above it. That is a marvelous modern invention called a Spell Checker and just remember the old "I before E except....." and that something can be full of harm but never harmfull

Not many comment on EMR's childish spelling and bad grammar despite his tedious posts questioning everyones intelligence Yet, Domino or myself make a slip and a couple of posters are all over like a rash.

Re: Gibraltar
Don't be silly Dom that doesn't fit the agenda
Let's start something controversial :- Gibraltar purposely goes out of it's way to pollute the seas, Why?
Well when the Spanish come here and fish illegally they take the polluted fish back to Spain and sell them to their unsuspecting countrymen.
That way we can control the Spanish population keeping the numbers down for the war to come
